On Fox’s Special Report tonight, Charles Krauthammer reacted to the American Health Care Act being pulled by saying that, philosophically, former President Barack Obama scored a victory today.
He said the country has changed in the years since Obamacare was passed into law and the terms of the debate — who’s going to lose health care and how many — show that there is now a “generalized expectation that there is an entitlement to universal health care.”
Compared to that, Krauthammer added, “What did the Republicans have to offer?”
He said aside from the “we made a promise” line from Paul Ryan and others, it wasn’t clear what the “essence of it” was.
Next time they want to do this, Krauthammer concluded, Republicans should just pass a version with more items conservatives wanted and then leave it to Senate Democrats to reject it.
