You'll know exactly what I'm talking about...

I really really really want to believe that women and men are equally shitty in regards to their Snapchat posts (and social media posts in general). But... holy fuck, I now ignore 90% of the females on my Snapchat feed because their posts are the absolute worst. It's a nonstop, insatiable feed of "look at me, look at my pet, look at me, look at my boyfriend, look at me, look at my food, look at me, look at my homework, look at me, look at my "goofy" friend who isn't actually funny, look at me dancing and lip-syncing to pop music, look at my outfit, look at me and my friends at [insert-exaggeratedly-fun-location-here], look at me ranting about mind-numbingly inane and useless topics, look at this thing I want that I'm pretending I don't want thirsty guys to buy for me." This phenomenon has many parallels in various forms of social media, but the reason I choose Snapchat is because it seems to be particularly distilled into its most obnoxious and shameless form.

Why is it that a very small percentage of women, and much larger percentage of men, realize that they have an audience to entertain on Snapchat? Why don't they realize how absolutely stupid and vain they come off? Perhaps they do realize it, and simply dont care, as they have a different approach that parallels their larger lives (and dating lives). Their posts are, often, not truly entertaining, but they, via the unceasing male sexual response, maintain (or desperately seek to create) a fixated audience, all the same. The female performance is, more often than not, a performance of beauty and stream-of-thought emotional expression in return for validation and/or attention. The male performance, more often than not, is of novelty and humor in return for acknowledgement, reaction and/or shared experience. Women seem to want to live, artificially, in a pop music video, sitcom, or magazine cover, while men seem to want to live, artificially, in a follow-my-adventure show or stand-up/sketch comedy.

While both sexes can, and do, put on the same sorts of performances towards the same goals (whether conscious or unconscious), the approach (and response) is decidedly different, on the whole. Perhaps, in their essence, these pursuits are very much the same... provide a visual, combine it with audio or text or filters, and thus elicit a response from a passive digital audience. The hope, for both, is that people will appreciate the feelings they receive, want more, and, potentially, give back in return. Women seem to be copy-cats, too... they see other women posting obnoxious attention-seek shit posts, and they copy this same behavior in order to acquire similar male sexual attention (that they will, largely ignore or shoo away, despite seeking a boost from it) for themselves. It's basically like women teaching each other how to weave a digital net for catching a wider swath of men into their selection pool, and in becoming more broadly "appealing" they water themselves down to the point where they become less desirable to any given segment of that pool, especially men with a semblance of self-worth or discernment of worthiness among women.

I think what pisses me off most is that women seem to be a lot more narcissistic, boring, lazy, uncreative, repetitive, and selfish in this regard, whereas men seem to be funnier, more creative, more aware of their audience (and thus less selfish), more diligent, and superior in objective entertainment value (for both women and fellow men). I've called women out on this stupid behavior by making fun of them, and they just laugh and keep doing it. Even women whom I consider attractive, even those whom I'd love to sleep with, I find myself annoyed and turned off by their constant attention-whoring.

All of that being said... there are definitely some men in my feed who are boring or obnoxious. There are also several women who post legitimately good content on a consistent basis. Furthermore, everyone has their moments of better or worse content. I'm just speaking generally, and the general trends are undeniable and should be called out for what they are.

TL;DR: Women are really annoying on Snapchat, right bro?
