Disinfect your living space.
Scientists have known since the mid-20th century that UV light kills harmful microbes. Our Orb's UV light peaks at a wavelength that is safe for humans and still powerful at killing microbes like algae, fungus, and bacteria. The Orb is a small sphere so it fits in many places! Plus, it’s waterproof. These attributes make the Orb incredibly useful at disinfecting germ-infested products you use every day.
What is EnviroHygiene™?
Hygiene means showering, brushing your teeth, washing your hands... it is the fight to keep unwanted germs off your body. EnviroHygiene means killing dangerous germs in your humidifer, disinfecting your baby's toys, extending the life of your food by deterring mold.... it is the fight to keep unwanted germs out of your living environment.
Your phone, humidifer, pet bowl, coffee machine, and humidifier may be harboring dangerous microbes. You use these products daily, but how often do you disinfect them? If you're like most people, not often enough. But why? Because practical disinfecting technology hasn't really existed. Sure, there are disinfectant sprays, but would you spray those chemicals into your coffeemaker or humidifier? Neither would we.
But now there's a new tool in your arsenal to keep your family safe.
How EnviroHygiene came to be:
While staring in the murky tank of his humidifier, our CEO remembered an alert released by the U.S. Product Safety Commission about how dangerous microbes often fester inside humidifiers. Young parents use humidifiers for their babies. To think of children being exposed to that sickness-causing mist for hours every single night... it was a distressing thought.
Thankfully, as the owner of a prominent LED device company, our CEO was in the perfect position to do something about it.
Antimicrobial UV lights have long been used to kill dangerous microbes in hospitals, wastewater treatment facilities, factories, and even sold to consumers as specialized single-purpose devices for many years... so our CEO wondered: Why has there has never been single, consumer-grade UV light device, meant for not one but many uses?
Now there is. Welcome to the Orb.
You know that phone you carry everywhere? Loaded with dangerous microbes. Some research suggests that your phone is dirtier than a public toilet. And that humidifier you "cleaned" 3 weeks ago? Ever read the manufacturer user guide? They want you to clean it so often it might as well be a part time job.
Now consider all the other products you use daily but don't clean enough. Sneakers, pet bowls, washable water bottles, meat and veggie drawers.... Thankfully, the Orb can disinfect just about everything —
Other disinfection uses for the Orb:
- Coffee maker water reservoir to prevent algae and bacteria growth.
- Drinking water reservoir of hiking backpacks. Great for those hot, multi-day trips! By the way, most of these water reservoirs have openings big enough for the Orb. We checked!
- Put Orb in a bowl of water. Inside that bowl, put your clear retainers or teeth aligners.
- Have a clear contact case? Put your contacts in it, then put that in a bowl of water with the Orb.

Bluetooth app:
We designed the Orb to be fully functional without the app.
- Buttons on the charging station will allow you to operate each Orb independently and set them to different strength settings (gentle, medium, strong).
- These settings will vary in light duration and frequency. For example, the "gentle" setting may light up the Orb for 3 minutes every 6 hours, while the "strong" setting may light up the Orb for 5 minutes every hour.
- We are currently fine-tuning these settings. In the user guide we will recommend different applications for each setting.
... But the app will have cool additional features for ease of use and customizability.
- Pre-configured settings like Shoes, Cheese Drawer, or Humidifier
- Two sliders — Duration and Frequency — will allow more customizability
- We're considering a low battery alert.
- We're continually brainstorming up other features to make the app super useful beyond the charging station interface. We want your recommendations!
Specs may change between now and production.
Stretch Goals:
$300,000 - Bluetooth app will be ready at first delivery. The app is already in alpha testing. There's no question that we will release it within 6-18 months following the Orb's release. But if we hit this stretch goal, we will have the app ready when the first Orbs ship!
$1,000,000 - We unlock the rest of the EnviroHygiene family of products that is currently in R&D. We will get started on them ASAP and probably launch Kickstarter projects for them too. Estimated arrival: Q1 2018 or earlier.
$2,000,000 – This is our true mission. Who knows what we'll do at this point. Probably something crazy that you'll really enjoy.

Risks and challenges
To be transparent, few risks and challenges will prevent us from completing this project in a timely manner and meeting our promise to you. We've been in the light therapy device business for over a decade, have managed large inventories and been held accountable by large retailers. We have weathered surges in demand before.
One possible risk is delayed delivery at the ports due to circumstances outside our control. This doesn't happen often but it did last year. A big shipment was delayed by a few weeks.
Our factories in China are special — they are regularly monitored by the FDA. We are required to work with special factories like this to produce our products, many of which are Class II Medical Devices. Our products meet high quality standards.
As far as Kickstarter creators go, we think we're pretty darn reliable. :)
