Both seek the truth and are met with heavy sighs by the impatient. ;)

I would say that...math is more than likely not a form of Buddhism. Thank you for thinking a bit outside of the box, but perhaps this thread would do better on somewhere like r/Showerthoughts.

There's no need to downvote OP. As Buddhists it's important for us to remember each being (Buddhist or not) has their own path, and we cannot force our path onto someone else. We all find the Dharma in our own way. OP is obviously already on the path; he/she can think and appreciate the beauty of very abstract concepts, which deeper Buddhist philosophy and logic are. Mathematics is his/her entry.

Many masters say emptiness can be deeply understood using sources other than Buddhist studies. There's no need to discount the OP's comparison of Mathematics to Buddhism; it's his/her little awakening. We must appreciate these little awakenings.

Let's relax. Let's open our mind. Let the rigidity go.

Thank you. Honestly, I wasn't expecting such a backlash to this post, especially considering I was posting to an Eastern philosophic community! Why can't we all just appreciate my point of view? It's not like I'm bashing Buddhism in any way... I love Buddhism.

That's what I saw in your post-you were not bashing any view, simply stating yours.

People felt the need to backlash because as humans we tend to let our emotions get in the way of acceptance. Instead of being a Buddhist first, our emotions drive us to become humans first.

Let's continue questioning reality with whatever rigorous, unbiased methods we can use at present.

Cheers!

Math doesn't lead to liberation, which is why the Buddha didn't teach it.

Math is mundane.

Buddhism is supramundane.

One doesn't have to be spiritual or otherworldly to be Buddhist. But one can accept reality for the way it is, which is what math aims to do in many of its different forms... trying to show the truth of the world through numbers, change, measurement, etc.
