Women are about 50% of the population... It's still not great but still, you can't have everything very quickly..., and I think this achievement deserves some light:

in fact its very hard to find any mainstream sources even covering this, they all seem to be worried about the muslim representation...

Everybody wants sensation these days. Now we have BJP government. Saying we have low number of muslim MLAs attract more eyeballs than high number of women MLAs. Its all about eyeballs.

The media in India is mainly 'liberal' in idealogy and are generally pessimistic and uncomfortable whenever the BJP comes to power anywhere. So they mostly focus on the negatives.
For example there are so many discussions and editorials about how there are no Muslim BJP MLAs in UP but none about how 7 out of 13 BJP MLAs in Goa are Christian. Because when the BJP does something 'secular' or 'inclusive' that they approve of they just pass it off as something normal and do not give any credit.
