Best post I probably have ever read on Reddit. Being in control is about owning 100% of what happens to you. This does not mean external shit doesnt happen that is beyond our control. It is about how we handle when it does while plodding ahead towards our desires regardless of the seeming obstacles.

One of your points has been a sticking point for me for years. I never had anyone to show me how to work on a car. I have done minor crap out of necessity, but never having a shit ton of money and then having that taken through divorce has always left me needing the car I have to be drivable. Not able to afford for it to just sit as I need it, i have always been fearful of taking it apart for fear of not putting it back together right.

One of my goals this year is to make enough money to get some property with a garage, and a used car whose only purpose is to take apart in my spare time and learn what to do and not to do so I can fix shit on my own. I also plan on using the same approach to home repairs. I want to save enough for a down payment and look for a house that needs some work. I want to jump in and learn how to do it myself. If I fuck it up, no big deal as I am not the most materialistic person in the world. The knowledge gained is something that can never be taken away. They can take your house, your car your whatever but your knowledge will stay with you, the one thing no one can take from you.

I always enjoy your insights as they reflect many of my own. We live in a culture now where everything is always someone else's fault, and as long as that mindset is prevalent how on earth can a person change their circumstances?
