Hipsters riot in the name of mutton because rioting for beef is too mainstream.

As someone from the same region, I can tell you that most of these slaughterhouses run by Qureshis are illegal.
There is angst against them because many times buffaloes/cows of farmers would go missing at night. There have been many reports of clashes between the community in the region for this matter.
You should listen to speeches of Bhartiya Kisan Union leaders (not related to Sangh Parivar in any way).
You can make a sarcastic comment if you want. But it is a main grievance of farmers of the region for long.
/r/india, with its demographics, is out of touch with reality of India.

You should listen to speeches of Bhartiya Kisan Union leaders (not related to Sangh Parivar in any way).
From wiki
The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) (translation: Indian Farmers' Union) is an Indian farmers' representative organisation affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.[1] It is one of the well-known Sangh Parivar organization.[2
[-]slow_bloke 2 points - [removed] (1 children)
Its not that one, that's why I put it in brackets. Look for Mahendra Singh Tikait.
[-]doc_two_thirty 19 points (1 children)
How many organisations are there? Besides, it doesn't matter. It might very well be a very prevalent problem and there is a system to deal with this. Noone has the right to resort to hooliganism and destruction of property. Period.
[-]slow_bloke -6 points - [removed] (2 children)
> How many organisations are there?
Tikait was a farmer leader who is respected throughout UP and led a decade long movement for farmer rights.
[-]doc_two_thirty 10 points
Still doens't justify the actions.
[-]jasounseebourne [score hidden]
Who decides how "respected" he is? And why is that relevant in any way?
[-]Mycroft-Tarkin 35 points (1 children)
So... we should set them on fire. Got it. Who needs laws anyway.
[-]slow_bloke 0 points - [removed] (6 children)
The present situation is because laws were never applied in the first place.
People take law in hand when the law doesn't work.
Why do you think there were large number of illegal slaughterhouses in first place? Majority of them are owned by the last MP of Meerut Shahid Akhlaq, who made his fortune exporting meat.
This is a much needed cleaning in the area.
[-]doc_two_thirty 31 points
Go to the police, file a complaint, ab to BC state government si also in their hands. Why resort to violence and mob justice? Kutte ki pooch hai, aadar hai dange karne ki.
[-]6a6f6b6572 11 points
The problem with this line of argument is it sets a very bad precedent. This is a slippery slope. With this line of argument anyone can justify Maoist, separatist. Violence/force should be a last resort.

People take law in hand when the law doesn't work.
So people think that law won't work with Yogiji as CM?
[-]parlor_tricks 8 points
Yeah I know, "reaction toh hone hi wala tha".
Everything can be covered by that sentence sadly.
[-]won_tolla 5 points
This is a much needed cleaning in the area
I think the official term for what you want is cleansing, not cleaning.
[-]Diphylleia_Grayi 5 points
But this is not the way to go about "cleaning".
[-]GroovyBabua 7 points (1 children)
The law enforcement agencies cant resolve this issue? Specially with BJP in power?
[-]slow_bloke 1 points - [removed] (1 children)
BJP has already issued directive to close down illegal slaughterhouses. Hope this is just a one off incident.
[-]GroovyBabua 5 points
Part of me hopes you are right and this is a one of instance. The cynic in me laughing at the hopeful part.
[-]dogaa 12 points (1 children)
Bhai I m not pro bjp in anyway but tu baat bikul correct bol raha hai as a resident of the region. But people are angry because of illegality of these actions. Saala mayawati kay time dalit goonday, sp kay time muslim/yadav gunday and ab bjp kay time vhp goonday.
[-]rollebullah 1 points
At least there are some goondas. People can sleep in peace.
[-]rahulthewall 14 points (1 children)
And instead of taking the legal route they have taken to rioting because with a BJP government in the state they feel that they will be protected.
[-]baddog1994 -6 points (2 children)
inb4 conveniently ignoring the first line of the comment saying it was illegal in the first place.
[-]doc_two_thirty 17 points (1 children)
So we should burn everything that is illegal? You want mob rule? What the fuck are the courts and police for?
[-]baddog1994 -10 points (2 children)
Obviously not worth shit if nothing was done about these shops in the last 5 years.
[-]NeighborhoodWatchA 13 points (1 children)
what about the badlav that the new BJP government will bring then?
[-]baddog1994 -7 points (3 children)
Here it is.
[-]doc_two_thirty 9 points
So we should gear up for 5 years of violence, mob mentality and hooliganism.
[-]NeighborhoodWatchA 8 points
good to know more unruly goondaism is the vikas BJP has promised.
[-]perseus0807 5 points
shit son i was expecting a functional police system and judiciary smh stupid me i guess
[-]doc_two_thirty 7 points
That was the past? Doesn't the glorious pm and the cm with the biggest mandate have the balls to actually do anything that use their goons to create ruckus and violence? Won't there be a retaliation after this? Don't you guys know what happens when instead of following legal procedures you go about demolishing and burning structures.
[-]rahulthewall 1 points
Angrezi nahi aati kya. Pehli line mein likha hai "instead of taking the legal route". Padh dhang se.
[-]amalagg -3 points (3 children)
This violence is unfortunate but it this anger is pent up for years. The police force is inadequate also after so many years of corruption. It will be a challenge for the new CM but he will be able to manage. Won't be good press for a while.
400 communal incidents before and no one cared but now even a single one will be blamed on the new CM.
[-]desi_in_videsh 12 points (1 children)
Newton's third law in action right?Totally cool /s

Not an excuse, they should be punished.
[-]doc_two_thirty 5 points (2 children)
Are you seriously going for this excuse? So damn convenient that this is a ready made excuse for everything that happens after this.
[-]that_70_show_fan 4 points
It is only jungle raj when my party isn't in power.
[-]amalagg -1 points (1 children)
Not an excuse, they should be punished.
[-]doc_two_thirty 5 points (1 children)
It sounds exactly like an excuse for this and for any further nuisance that these idiots create. That it just the people's anger from years of mis-rule. It's sickening the amount of mental gymnastics that people indulge in for their faithfulness to political establishment.
[-]amalagg [score hidden]
If the govt is in power why do they need riots to close illegal shops? This is the public who do not think they will be punished.
[-]post4321 6 points (1 children)
Wow now justifying violence too.
Guess everyone is now allowed to use violence to solve their "issues"
[-]amalagg 0 points
Not an excuse, they should be punished.
