Solar Power Cap has taken advantage of advancements in solar technology and allows you to now conveniently take the power of the sun with you! With a strong (and safe) battery you can now have power anywhere!
Just as the name suggests, the Solar Power cap harnesses energy from the sun through photo-voltaic panels. Power is stored in a safe chemistry LiFePO battery which will not catch fire or explode (looking at you Samsung...)

Solar Power
Our solar power system is manufactured according to our proprietary, patent pending design. This revolutionary design includes:
- A unique process that curves mono-crystalline cells to fit the contours of the hat
- Proprietary encapsulant that protects the cells from abuses
- Anti reflective coating reduces power loss when the sun is at a steep angle, unlike other solar products which lose power
- Moisture barrier ensures the cells are protected from moisture ingress
The result is a solar power system that allows us to use the most powerful solar cells on the market, producing far more power than other solar power products. Our nominal power rating is nearly 10 times the amount found on typical solar power banks. 4550 mW compared to usually about ~500 mW. And our hat will last longer, and always be there when you need it. Unlike other solar charging systems that can be unreliable and fail just when you need them.
Battery
We use a much safer and more stable LiFePO chemistry compared to Lithium Ion batteries found in most consumer electronics today
Our battery has a 4x longer lifespan due to the superior longevity of LiFePO chemistry in charging cycles
The LiFePO battery charges when there is surplus energy from the solar cells
The battery provides power when the sunlight is insufficient to charge your device, or in darkness

The Solar Cap was born when Mark Summers needed a way to keep his phone powered as he traveled as an IT specialist. Alternatives were lacking, as nothing available could reliably provide enough power, while still being convenient to carry around.
Jourdan is an avid backpacker, and uses his phone for both entertainment at camp and GPS during the day. Battery life brings convenience, and makes the trip much more memorable and enjoyable. Even when out of cell reception, and especially on multi-day trips.
With experience in solar electrical systems from work on solar powered blimp drones, and knowledge of light weight, durable, and safe power systems, Mark went to work.
Jourdan has kept the idea grounded, making sure the final product is convenient to use, fits on multiple styles of hats, and makes sure the overall product quality matches the standards set by all of you.
Risks and challenges
A challenge that we face is transitioning this project to mass production. Currently we make all of the hats by hand, using our patent pending process to bend each cell while maintaining their functionality. We need cash to move our process to a factory in order to produce the Solar Power Cap on a large scale. Everything is possible with your support!
