I think it was more about being perceived as having done a favor for the auto workers, while simultaneously encouraging citizens to take on more unnecessary debt. It was a false jumpstarter for the economy, based on government subsidy and private debt. Trash.

Cash for clunkers fucked over poor people hard.

I was just out of high school and got in an accident. My car was totaled. It was so hard to find a low cost car. You used to be able to find so many cars under a grand that ran and would last a couple years.

I ended up finding worse car than I had. It cost me like 2500 bucks - when it would have been under a grand just months before.

My biggest take away from CFC was that it seriously fucked over poor people. And it fucked up the cheap used car market for years.

If you crushed a '70 Superbird to get a Prius, you should just die.

I agree. It was also about killing the used car market to force people only have the choice to buy new. That's why the dealers had to seize the engines of cars that were traded in under the program.

What are you on about? Cash for clunkers was for 90s explorer and the like. Also if your worried just go buy a Ford. Their CAN network can't be accessed without being physically with the vehicle.

I cashed an old 1996 Tahoe. Got like 500 bucks. Bought some weed.

Yeah right. We're talking about an agency that can access your cell phone's microphone when it isn't even powered on.

Makes no sense given OnStar is the biggest "big brother" automotive technology ever invented and is has been included in almost every "American" GM vehicle for years.
