Google News staff:
I am distressed on a daily basis by the number of fringe, sometimes extremist organizations that I see represented in Google News. It is degrading and destructive to place articles from Breitbart News side by side with ones from the Washington Post, or the Daily Caller right alongside the New York Times, as if they were equals, with equally valid viewpoints, and should be treated as equals by Google News readers.
Google News should not be soliciting new publishers. Sources should not be added on request to have their articles included in Google News until there is an issue. Google News should be largely closed to new web sites. Sources should not be included unless they have a proven reputation for quality and objectivity, and are widely-respected among their peers.
In 1997, you could happily welcome new web sites with unique slants to the exciting brave new world of the Internet. But we live in very different, much more dangerous times. Google has a duty, in the America of 2017, to be very selective, not giddily inclusive.
