A reasonable counter is that Trump is dirty in non treasonous ways (ya know, like a politician or buisnessman) and merely doesn't want his dirty laundry turned out.

Personally, I think Putin's paying him a lot of money through his various businesses (not hard to launder when you have like 200 businesses or whatever) but you can't deny that there are reasons other than Russian ties to not go along with an investigation.

Note that when Greenfucker and Taibbi offer their evidence in the form of a quote from some supposed democratic official, those statements or individual words in some cases are never stated in the context in which they were originally said, and instead, Greenwald, et al. provide all of the commentary as to what that tightly cropped quote really means, thus allowing them to spread whatever bullshit they want, no matter what their source material really says. Greenwald does this sort of thing on a regular basis, such as during the NSA leaks and the DNC hack, where he takes some sentence out of context and tells you what they probably mean or what they might mean, and proceeds to form all of his conclusions based on the unfounded suppositions that he just pulled out of his ass.

It's pretty basic game theory: If there is nothing at all to the Russia stuff, then the Trump administration would not only be helped by getting things cleaned up as soon as possible, they would be dramatically vindicated.

The Trump camp would also score huge political points from the conclusion of a Russia investigation that found them innocent. It would be like Geraldo opening Al Capone's vault, a big fat nothing. The mainstream media would be embarrassed. Democrats would be embarrassed. Trump would have the fun of rubbing it in their faces for the rest of his term.

I've thought about that too. If Trump is found innocent, it will discredit his critics and immunize him against future criticism. And - of course - he'd love to gloat about how he was right and the FAKE NEWS from failing newspapers was wrong.
