I would like to share this fantastic article over at Stats Bomb that addresses a question we've all been grappling with: Is the Utd v2 Pogba worse than the Juve one? Has he been a good player and simply let down by poor play from his teammates? Is r/soccer right about him?
The article does a great job comparing his output (goals + assists per 90 minutes of play) vs. his inputs (Expected Goals + Assists)
What is actually happening is that Pogba is playing at the same level, if not better than, as at Juventus. The real issue is that his teammates are struggling to capitalize on those opportunities.
While he is not without blame, particularly defensively, it matches my eye test in that Pogba is always good for 3-4 good chances a game. According to Sir Alex, that is what a world class player produces for you night-in night-out.
That is worth 90 million in today's market for me
