Hi guys, I'm on a break so wanted to get some thoughts out there that have been on my mind :)
The last game vs Middlesbrough I was incredibly worried beforehand. So many leaders missing in the team, such an important game, and to top it off Mkhi was on the bench, it was pretty bad.
Probably the most 'Mourinho' or 'old Mourinho' type win I've seen since he became manager. Our teams lack of players was probably the reason we went so defensive towards the end, but something else really impressed me which the the way the other players took up the mantle and realised "we need to make some shit happen here". I believe Mourinho's man management is playing a huge part in this.
We know he has asked more from other players to help Zlatan. Lingard stepped up vs Middlesbrough and I think the confidence he will get and the message it sends out to the rest of the team is all a result of great man management.
We have some great players that aren't afraid to take the game into their hands, but the manager is giving them ALL great confidence to believe they can actually do that.
Mourinho's actions in the market have so far been nothing sort of superb so far, buying a top centre forward leader, convincing our prodigy midfielder to return, a new solid CB which no-one really expected, and fucking Mkhitaryan who looks like he could be the best player in the EPL one day, but the way he is managing the players, giving them confidence I think is the key.
Looking back to last season under LVG, there is a debate to whether or not our squad was good enough, whether we had the right players. I would argue that despite not having the most balanced team, we were still not getting anywhere near 100% efficiency out of that team, and I think that was also down to man management and treatment of players, here is why.
You look at some of those players now that we have let go under LVG, Di Maria/Falcao/Hernandez/Schneiderlin even Memphis are actually playing well, hell, even our youth product Micheal Keane is now playing brilliantly at Burnley and top clubs and sniffing, which LVG sold after the 4-0 to MK Dons and could well come back to haunt us. In fact, so many players struggled under the strictness and style of LVG.
You look at a couple of those players now that were not good under LVG, Herrera/Rojo. They have been totally changed under Mourinho, the way he has handled these players.
In my opinion, Mourinho being Mourinho is what is the best about Mourinho. His way of dealing with people individually for what he calls 'the evolution of the team' is what is impressing me most, as it is giving players belief not just in themselves but also Mourinho, they want to fight for him, which is vital. Sir Alex was one of the best if not the best ever manager at doing this.
Thanks for listening :)
