Because they would then be portrayed as martyrs, and the cops probably transferred/suspended. Shiv Sena would back the protesters to hit back at BJP, and the MSM/SM would have a field day.
Edit: Basically the Ruling Party is always the bad guy in such events.

How do you know it's AIMIM people? It could very have been a post insulting Shivaji.
Regardless, my point is that the ruling party (i.e. BJP) will get shit from all parties if a protestor were killed. As SS is a semi-opposition, they will definitely use it as an excuse to attack BJP, similar to how they backed EVM-crying Mayawati and Kejriwal.
