Obama should sue Trump for defamation (self.EnoughTrumpSpam)

Best case scenario, Trump is deposed and he is forced to tell the truth, which is that Obama didn't wiretap him. If Trump lies, then he must be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors. According to the Republicans in 1999, lying under oath qualifies as "high crimes and misdemeanors."

I wouldn't get my hopes up though because the Republicans control the house and the senate. They value party over country so until they think that Trump is a detriment to the party, they're not gonna do jack shit.

The difference here is a difference of respect for the Office of the President of the United States of America.

President Obama has respect for it and thus would never take such action.

President Delusional Psychopath Trump and zero respect for it and will probably threaten to sue President Obama before this is all over.

He would lose, and it wouldn't even get to discovery, all for one simple fact that is the part of libel laws that Trump loathes.

Public figures have a higher bar to prove libel and defamation. They have to not only show that the statement was wrong. But that the person who made it knew it was wrong, and said it expressly with the interest to do harm to the plaintiff.

In this case, how easy would it be for the Cheeto to say he actually believed it then, of hell, believes it now?

And that is ballgame. If you want to sue and win, you need to lower the bar for libel and defamation and turn the law into a system like what was in Great Britain where a group like the Chiropractors Association sued Simon Singh for libel and initially won because he called it quack medicine and the practitioners scam artists.

Under THAT kind of system, we could be sued here every day for the shit we say about Trump.
