Demanding an apology makes no sense. If you have to demand it, it’s not really an apology.

The purpose of demanding an apology is not to receive a sincere apology; the purpose of demanding an apology is to demonstrate that you have power over another person by forcing them to engage in insincere pseudo-apologetic rituals.

The purpose of demanding an apology is to make the other person aware that you’re mad, and get them on record as admitting that you were mad and possibly even that they know why.

The purpose of demanding an apology is ensuring that everyone admits that abstract conventions of fair dealing were violated, even if the person apolgising doesn’t believe they shouldn’t have done the thing they’re apologising for.

(Which is to say that it can serve any of the purposes above, or a combination of them, and different parties to the same apology may experience it differently, and basically that all communication is a mess.)
