"The attitude, the desire and our way of thinking [was great]. We did not have A, B, C, D, E, F or G, but we have L, M, N, O, P and these guys gave absolutely everything. I think we started the game really well; Valdes made three fantastic saves before our first goal. We controlled everything before our second goal and they then changed to play with Gestede and Negredo. They started putting long balls in to the box. We decided to defend with an extra defender, but I think with the mistakes of letting them push us too much into our box. "We had to think that [certain players] were fresh because they didn’t play and some played against Rostov so are tired. For example, I played Valencia in that [higher position] to protect him. Mata, I knew could not play 90 minutes so we had to think about all these things at the same time. But the team was solid, compact and was very dangerous, especially in the first half before the goal. We had three big chances to score before the goal and I think we caused them lots of problems. It is normal they have a reaction; they are fighting for relegation for every point, but we deserved to win."

ON FATIGUE

"The winning is great for the group. But obviously today was too much for us. Rostov away, Chelsea with 10 men, Rostov again and now Middlesbrough with injured players, tired players, suspended players, but these guys today were magnificent. I was expecting this kind of answer. I knew that people like Ashley Young, Carrick, Fellaini - I knew that Fellaini played against Rostov and for 40 minutes he was amazing. His form his high. Ashley Young played against Rostov and at Stamford Bridge. I knew the guys were ready to answer. So it was very good; I think we played really well."

Wasn't the best performance. But I think we can't really blame Jose for bringing on defenders and playing five at the back when realistically, they were the only options considering the suspensions, injuries and fatigue in the squad atm.

Anyway, the most important thing is that we got the three points and moved up to fifth. We're well and truly in the race for top 4, especially with a game in hand. Let's hope we can get some players rested during the internationals and avoid injury.

Happy we grinded it out, I didn't feel too good coming into it, especially with so many starters missing but once again I get blown out of the water at how good some of our backups are (I know it was against Boro but still).

Lingard doesn't do sitters, I will forever back him (and his celebrations). Thought him and Marcus up top as a means of countering could be very very effective in the future as they both have the pace and have proven they have the finishing, just about consistency.

Didn't like how we sat back and absorbed pressure after they scored, as it gave me heart failure but thankfully Agent Victor came to the rescue.

Speaking of them scoring, Smalling though man, I love you but how many mistakes like completely missing that ball that went straight to Gestede is he gonna make? Bailly is an absolute lunatic and I absolutly adore the fuck out of him and cannot wait to see how he progresses.

Onto West Brom!

3 points, City and Liverpool drop 2 a piece, no injuries, Valdes made himself look like a prick, Valencia got a goal. Only thing missing was a clean sheet but all in all a great weekend for us.
