I got you gurl, i took a Gay & Lesbian film class last semester: Paris Is Burning (drag), The Celluloid Closet (documentary), Boys in the Band (gay), Fabulous: The Story of Queer Cinema (documentary), The Children's Hour (lesbian w Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine), Cabaret (not necessarily LGBT but Liza Minnelli plays a showgirl and has a gay friend that she tries to hit on)

Thank you! THIS is what I was referring to what I wanted (pointing at you, /u/AcidBitter) :)

Old-Time classics that paved the way.

I don't know if these are "old/classics" but definitely worth watching:

Love!Valour!Compassion!, Pageant, The Bird Cage/La Cage Aux Folles, My Own Private Idaho, Dog Day Afternoon, Priscilla - Queen of the Desert, Shortbus, Tales of the City (TV Mini Series, actually - which also has 2 "sequel" series,) and Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon

The original French version of La Cage, please. Vastly superior.

The 1990s Stonewall features a young Guillermo Diaz from Scandal and talks about trans and drag issues and the Stonewall Riot. Working Girl, Big Business, Steal Magnolias, Faster PussyCat Kill Kill, Valley of the Dolls, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Xanadu. My recent discovery on Amazon Prime "Can't Stop the Music" which is quite possibly the gayest movie ever. A young short shorted Steve Guttenberg and a long in the tooth model put together the Village People and a young Caitlynn Jenner is in it in a crop top and short shorts.

    Grace and Frankie

    Wasn't it thelma and louise?

Yes it was. And people are getting mad at me for actually knowing my shit. /u/AcidBitter

I literally said Grace and Frankie because that's a show I like with a large gay fan base. I literally was telling you shows and movies I like that seem to have a large gay fanbase.

Showgirls, Mommie Dearest, Grace and Frankie, What ever happened to baby Jane?

It's really just a coincidence that all your favorite movies are the ones the girls parodied this week (with a question mark for the extra sass) but instead of Thelma and Louise, it happened to be another TV SHOW NOT EVEN A FILM that happened to have two women's names in them? Bullshit.

Suurrrrreeee honey. Just looking for excuses to be really really rude.

[–]AcidBitterI rather be cute than simple; Anything else ? -1 ポイント0 ポイント  (2子コメント)

The question mark is because the title is a question. And they didn't parody Mommies Dearest. I tried to also give you something more modern (Because not everyone likes black and white, old films) But okay continue to be a cunt.

    Thank you! :)

This may be stupid, but did I miss the part where the girl's parodied Grace and Frankie this week?

They didn't, they parodied thelma and louise...

    [–]ToTYly_AUSemSasha Velour[S] 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (2子コメント)

Okay that's what I thought. It's weird that everyone thought "Velma and Weezy" was a joke on "Grace and Frankie" and not "Thelma and Louise..."

I was asking for my gay-herstory and even I know Lilly Tomlin and Jane Fonda didn't drive off a cliff at the end!

    [–]promking696922 88 999 5 666 2 66 66 33 666 66 444 8 88 66 33 7777 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (1子コメント)

Lilly Tomlin and Jane Fonda didn't drive off a cliff at the end!

This would be an interesting way to end the show tho

Hahahaha! Only if they were tripping together would it be the appropriate ending :)

    Hairspray

    Pink flamingoes

    Priscilla Queen of the desert

    Paris is burning

To wong foo ( Ru Paul appears in it)

La cages aux folles (Birdcage I think is the name for the american version)

Some examples. All of them really entertaining, Pink flamingoes a bit risky don't watch with your parents

Obviously Katya's favorite movie Contact is the only one worth watching.

    [–]BraglehNina Bo'nina Brown 3 ポイント4 ポイント  (3子コメント)

When I was in my last year of school we watched this film in social studies and I was tripping the fuck out tbh

    [–][deleted] 5 ポイント6 ポイント  (2子コメント)

In all seriousness though Contact is actually one of my favorite movies. I've been watching it ever since I was a wee little gay boy and I still love it. It's honestly just such a beautiful movie and it still makes tear up a little every time I watch it.

So naturally I kind of freaked out with all of Katya's references to the film.

    [–]BraglehNina Bo'nina Brown 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (1子コメント)

Yeah I totally agree, I think beautiful is the only way to describe it

Surprised no one's recommended the '90s classic "Trick"! Still the best gay rom-com out there, featuring Tori Spelling being super adorable and a Coco Peru cameo that can't be described as anything but ICONIC.

Simon Doonan & John Waters have both written recommendations of essential films & other gay culture. Do yourself a massive life & mind enhacing favour & seek those out. Kudos to you on your curiosity & on being smart enough to ask. Mwaaaa X

Last week, they parodied Showgirls (a cult classic about a Las Vegas showgirl), Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? (A film starring real life rivals Joan Crawford and Bette Davis), and THELMA AND LOUISE (not Grace/Frankie, idk why everyone's saying it's Grace and Frankie. It's a buddy/crime drama with Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, and Brad Pitt)

Let me chuck in a few dark n' moody English chamber pieces. "The Servant" (Pinter, Losey & Bogard) "Entertaining Mr Sloane" (Irenie Handal, Joe Orton) "The Killing of Sister George" (Beryl Reid, Susan George). Names in brackets = other interesting work. "Prick Up Your Ears" is about the life of Joe Orton & a very good film. Stirling performances from Alfred Molina & Gary Oldman.

Anything directed by Fellini or Fassbinder.

Ohh there is so much I'm only touching the surface.

    [–]ToTYly_AUSemSasha Velour[S] 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (14子コメント)

Well Mommie Dearest came out in 1981, and Baby Jane came out in 1962. Grace and Frankie came out in 2015.....so....I think those are classics lmfao.
