Faced with impeachment, what would Trump do? (self.EnoughTrumpSpam)

Not sure if this is the right forum for this. But still, interesting.

An American President has never been impeached. Clinton's impeachment didn't clear the Senate, and Nixon resigned once he saw the writing on the wall.

With today's reporting of Trump's record low approval numbers, and the general trend of his administration suggesting that this will not improve, I'd like to posit to you guys a question: If he were impeached by both houses (or booted by his Cabinet by the 25th) how would he react?

I see Donald Trump not as a pathological liar, or some Machiavellian 4-D Chess player. I honestly think he's delusional. He believes the things he says, and twists/invents facts to support whatever fantasy he's engaged that day.

I do believe that eventually the water will get too hot for the Republicans to support Trump, and they will move to get rid of him. However, I seriously doubt that Trump would accept this in any situation. Instead, he'd go out guns blazing (literally) and encourage his followers, many of whom are armed to the teeth, to "back him up" against this "coup".

This is something I never thought I would have to worry about in my lifetime. I am serious. I'm not a crackpot, I'm not some gullible left-wing conspiracy-theorist. I'm a lawyer with an M.A. in Global Securities Studies from an American University. I work with the Canadian government on policy re: the U.S.

This douchey humblebraggery isn't to puff up my chest. The above scenario is a real concern of all kinds of policy wonks, intelligence officers, and people at all levels of law enforcement.

If this doesn't scare the hell out of you, it should. Consider that this man "joked" about having Hillary Clinton killed on the campaign trail. Twice.

I think an impeachment might have a fairly brief but possibly explosive backlash. My worry is more if something happens to this orange moron. If he has a heart attack and dies for instance the majority of his base are insane conspiracy theorists. That would cause real harm and destabilize the country.

The general consensus amongst those I've spoken to in the States, including some Washington relics, is that Pence is seen as a stabilizer. He's a zealot and a cynic, but he is not a conspiracy theorist a la Bannon.

Basically, when the knives come out for Trump and Bannon, the leading conspirator will certainly be Pence.

That's a pathological liar. A pathological liar is someone who compulsively tells lies or fabricates information, individual may be aware they are lying, or may believe they are telling the truth - may lie to gain sympathy, boredom, or insecurity.

But if they impeach him through the house and vote to remove him in the Senate - he's got no choice to but vacate or be arrested. Simple as that. He will go out in a huff, and but honestly, there's not going to be too much of a base to rile up, and violence in his name will be less prevalent than it is even now. His followers are not ever going to leave the internet and put that much energy into anything. Reddit might be hell for a few days but that's it.

My worry is what that they don't turn on him or do anything to hold him in check. There's nothing to worry about if they vote to throw him out, he can fuck around and find himself in prison if he wants. But there's a hell of a lot to worry about if they don't decide to do something about him.

I mostly agree with you. But keep in mind that not six months ago, a man shot up a Pizzeria to free the children from Hillary Clinton's secret sex ring.

These are not normal times (Duh...) and we do need to at least consider outside possibilities.

While your doomsday scenario isn't out of the realm of possibility, I think it's more likely Trump will go out with a whimper rather than a bang.

That's an interesting post. I would say though, that I don't see this as a "doomsday scenario". This would not be a civil war, no nukes would fly. Instead, I would see it more as a "Rodney King Riots on Steroids".
