This song is just so amazing. The fight with Yami is pretty darn intense. While not particularly difficult, the fight still has a very bleak, almost hopeless feeling. You start with basically no powers, and have to struggle against him for the majority of the fight, as you slowly gain your abilities back...but at the same time, Yami only continues to grow more powerful as well. Then, he strikes you down. The moment you let your guard down, you are left wounded, powerless, and at the mercy of Yami...but then...the entire world calls out to you. Everyone you've met, everyone you've helped...they all come to your aid, they share their power with you...and with their prayers, wishes, and hopes, you gain all your power back and then some, as THIS music starts. The entire world is on your side, lending you their strength...and with that power, you can now burn away the darkness, and CRUSH the dark lord like the bug he is! That is why this song is so great...while it is an amazing song by itself, the way it is used in the game is just incredible. After the power struggle the boss fight was until this point, this music screams "You have the upper hand(or paw)! Yami is nothing before you now!" It's so empowering, and just makes you feel like you CANNOT lose!

Capcom already liquidated and shut down Clover Studios, so there's no chance at a true Okami sequel. I couldn't trust anyone but Clover with that kind of responsibility, and Crapcom already made sure it'll never happen.
    24 25
    VocaloidHDSub
+Feral Kuja Then let Platinum games buy the rights and let Nintendo publish it. Most people from clover studies made Platinum games so we can sure trust them.

There's already a sequel out on the NDS, it's called Okamiden, and it features Amaterasu's son who is still just a young wolf cub.
    10 11
    Feral Kuja
+skurvay Not done by Clover, and it was a pretty mediocre-at-best game. Not a real sequel or successor, just a spin-off trying to cash-in on the game's success.

Honestly, i wouldn't want another true game in this series, the game had a story that stood by itself, and maybe the combat could be better, God knows it had the mechanics, just not the difficulty, except that one canine warrior bonus fight, but some series are best left untouched in truth and left as a masterpiece on its own
    6 7

+Mezba Hawk This is true... we don't want another continuing series that should be left finished. Just... look what happened to poor Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot....

+eduardo coello While I'm sure that there are games out there that may still be good once they are no longer produced or created by the original designers, I'm saying it is a more rare occurance at least in my personal experience. I don't simply mean a series continuing, or sequels in general. I mean a game (Or other, such as anime or television show) continuing once the orginal creator has no more part in it. This is the case with most subsequent spyro and crash games after Insomniac and naughty dog no longer had anything to do with their games. Though I will admit, I liked a hero's tail, and wrath of cortex though most people hate them... Or take dragon ball GT for the Dragon ball Series... Akira Toriyama did not write that storyline. It has poor dialogue, out of character actions, and several plot holes.
    3 4
    skurvay
+AntiFormKeyblade So did My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, though it was made by the same creators as the series, I'm sure that the original producer Lauren Faust would have done it a little differently.

    1
    Feral Kuja
Tomb Raider 2013 is a reboot superior to the original, for one. Wolfenstein: The New Order, as well (Mostly because unlike Duke Nukem Forever, Wolfenstein doesn't take itself seriously and maintains the fun and badass feelings of old-school shooters in a modern engine). Shadowrun Returns is a reboot that arguably, despite the base campaign's short length, is a refreshing and amazing experience (Not to mention the tools players can use to make and distribute their own custom campaigns). And finally, Wasteland 2. Could be considered a sequel and a reboot in one, since Wasteland hasn't had a release since the original back in... Whenever the hell before I was even born it came out in. The big thing making or breaking reboots is the passion and dedication of the development team. I can't see Crapcom or most any major publisher giving a team enough leeway and funding to truly do justice to Okami, but that kind of funding and dedication is present all throughout the industry.

+AwesomeDrifterX He's right. It really didn't revolutionize 3D gaming. Sure, it was a cool step in the 3D media from a general point of view, but 3D gaming was made cool by the Nintendo 64 and for many, the PS2.
    1
    DarthPanik64
oh boy... alright, first things first. the 3DS is by no means a "weak" system. it's a portable console, with plenty of features, and good looking games, but not HD for that matter. it has an impressive library of games so far, there are really lengthy games on it and a ton of quality titles. and to the mate that compared it to "any other portable consoles or phones", the only other portable out there is the Vita and we all know how that turned out for Sony. and most iphones or androids are more powerfull in terms of visuals, yeah, but you don't see a monster hunter-long kind of game on the phone, because then you wouldn't have memory to even send a message, would you? not to mention you buy a 3DS for like, what, 200 dollars? whereas an iphone is...yeah, you get my point. all i was saying is that Okami would benefit much more from the power of the wii u, and the features it has. you say "what about the people who don't have a wii u?" well, too bad. i'd like to have everything, too, but i don't. alright, sorry for the long post mates ^^

One of the best games ever. After going through one of the most symbolic boss fights ever (Yami's first form represents how humans like to destroy things, its second form represent how humans use fire to destroy things, its third form represents how humans like taking risks, its fourth form represents how humans use machines to destroy things, its last form represents how humans use their own hands for evil, and lastly, its true form represents how everything, even evil, can begin small.) Your friends basically say that they will have your back and you're not alone (in that awesome cutscene). You can't do everything by yourself and you don't have to shoulder all that burden by yourself (which is the moral of this awesome story.) You have helped everyone in Nippon people in need, and you asked for nothing in return? Un-uh. We are helping you reguardless. We have your back. That lesson is powerful enough, but the way the game take that concept, ices it with some of the best music I've heard, and completes it with unique graphics, great cinematic gameplay (a little repetitive at times) and one hell of a story. This game needs a prequel or we need a sequel after Okamiden that shows how Amaterasu and (possibly) Chibiterasu go about cleansing the Celestial Plains to restore it to its former beauty. Wonder if it could be possible for a 2-player game to be made? I Think us fans would crap our pants if any of these were to happen.

I'm genuinely curious, where is this symbolism about Yami coming from?  It's been a long time since I played Okami but I don't remember anything indicating Yami as a symbol of human evil, and that was not the theme of the game at all (most every threat or evil was non-human).  That all seems very trite and headcanony to me, but correct me if I'm wrong.
    1 2
    darkclawgreatonenas
+ArcViper it is not headcannon...the word yami is Japanese for darkness, there is much Japanese folklore hidden in the game, and the Oni known as Yami is one of them
    1
    ArcViper
+darkclawgreatonenas I know what his name means, although I'm not finding any info about an oni named Yami in folklore.  Regardless, that didn't even come close to answering my question. Until someone can provide a source of some kind then I would assume that someone made the symbolism up and it spread like a meme.
    1 2
    mary mayhem
+ArcViper I'm not entirely sure but because Japanese folklore mixes Shintoist and Buddhist elements, Yami could probably mean Yamuna. Yamuna is also known as Yami. She is a sister to her brother Yama, the God of Death in both Hinduism and Buddhism. Yama, also known as Enma-ō(閻魔王) in Japan, is the head and one of the Ten Kings of Hell, he is the one that judges the realm of existence you will be reborn into. You can Google search the Wikipedia links "Yami" and "Yama(Buddhism and Chinese mythology)". I personally think that Yami in Okami actually meant Yama, not his sister, because Ninetails said in Okami "Yami is the absolute ruler of all evil beings. He is the ultimate symbol of darkness".

    PiccoloNamek
That is one of the coolest interpretations of Yami I've ever seen. At first I thought it was funny, but then I thought about it and honestly it really makes a hell of a lot of sense. That made it even funnier. Well done.

I always thought this boss fight was awesome, alongside this music, beacuse it's one of the few times a game lets you feel like you have the upper hand against the boss, with Ammy's sudden power boost, and the triumphant music, instead of some ominous latin chanting making the boss out to be some insurmountable wall.  You are the goddess of the sun, all of humanity is behind you, and nothing is going stand in your way.

Every time I try to come back to it, my motion control is awful. It might just be the controller, I'll try it again whenever I feel like it.

Man, these days I can barely listen to this song without getting a little teary eyed. I remember picking up this game after randomly hearing Chuggaaconroy mention it (long before the LP), and I've never regretted it. In a matter of days, the game went from a blip on my radar to being among my top 5 favorite games of all time. This game is beautiful, not just visually, but also artistically. It is easily one of the most compelling games I've ever played, and it is so wonderfully deep in symbolism and meaning that I still learn new things to this day, over 5 years later. And this song! This song! Simply breathtaking!  I love this game.

It's the end. Ushiwakamaru has fallen. The celestial brush gods have been destroyed. The sun is obscured by shadow. The Emperor of Everlasting Darkness stands poised to deliver the final blow. But suddenly, you feel your power returning. One by one the Gods of the Celestial Brush are restored. Issun has accepted his role as a celestial envoy, and restored the people's faith in you. You are Amaterasu, goddess of the sun, origin of all that is good, mother of the heavens. You are the the rising sun that will burn away the darkness. You cannot lose.

Yami! Your terror ends here! You think you can get away with spreading the world in darkness?!!? THINK AGIAN! I may also originate from the darkness in people's hearts, but you're still going down! Face the true meaning of hope, justice, peace, and restoration! You may have taken my throne, but I will reclaim it!- me if I were a heartless. (Probably)

Yami had struck you down. All hope was lost. It all ends here. But wait... Issun? He had realized his fate as the celestial envoy, and is using it in your ultimate time of distress. All of the allies you had met on your journey, their hopes, their prayers. As the power of faith surges into you, you gain everything you had ever lost. The Dark Emperor seems to be gaining power immensely, but compared to the force of light, he is but a mere speck. Yami shall fall to the ultimate power of the gods. You will burn a shining hole through the blackness. You are Okami Amaterasu. Okay, I'm not that good of a writer but whatever. I wanted to stick something like that in the comments.

And I'm thinking maybe Chibitarasu, but that is a rare one, or maybe one of the partners from Okamiden as well. I really did hope that she would win the smash ballot, but...well...We didnt' get her this time

This is the best battle music I've ever heard! At this point, I knew that this game was something special. I cried like a little baby right before this started playing. To hear this come on, I didn't know what to do with myself anymore. I didn't know which emotion was appropriate. Never has anything ever done something like this to me. I will forever love you, Okami Amaterasu, origin of all that is good and mother to us all.

I am justice incarnate, brought to this world by forces beyond your comprehension. A cleansing storm to sweep across the land and purge it of your foul presence. I... am Okami Amaterasu. And your campaign ends here and now. Throw down your weapons and surrender, or you will face an enemy unlike any this world has ever seen!

What God is not both natural and artificial? would any diety refuse beauty and serenity in any of their forms, less they be destructive forces?
