We need research to say there's social discrimination in India?

opinions have to be backed by data and evidence.

It is anti-national to show India in negative light.

So, for you it's important to have good image of India. Although, let the real people suffer on ground. You can only improve if you measure how wrong it is. If you keep wrapping wrongs does not mean that wrong things don't exist.

Good image brings a lot of investment and helps the people suffering.

See people are suffering, we are poor country. We need wealth generation. So in order to generate wealth, we need lot of investment. This investment will in turn help the people who are suffering. Otherwise, we are distributing poverty.
This is what the sub has taught me last 5 years.

THis is sad news for me.
I always wanted to get into Ambedkar Studies or Dalit Studies. That way, I could earn a comfortable salary while pontificating about Brahmanism and Aryan oppression. THis way, I could feel morally superior to my fellow citizens while leading a comfortable middle-class life.
Now what am I going to do :(

Mixed signals.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot and his MOS Krishan Pal Gurjar (L) and Vijay Sampla (2nd L) paying homage to Ambedkar before laying foundation stone of Ambedkar National Memorial at Vigyan Bhavan on March 21, 2016 in New Delhi, India.
  • The Narendra Modi government has decided to stop funding university research centres that study social discrimination, Dalit exclusion, BR Ambedkar's philosophies, etc by the end of the month, reported The Telegraph.
  • These centres, funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC), were started under the 11th five-year plan (2007-2012).
  • "It's ironic that these centres... are being closed down when the UGC (the higher education regulator) is funding courses on Vedic studies," N. Sukumar, who is an Ambedkar scholar and teaches political science in Delhi University, told The Telegraph.

Can someone explain the headline : how is social discrimination research 'directly' contributing to Dalit upliftment compared to other govt programs.
[-]GiantAlien5TinyHeads 1 points
Govt programs have to properly target the problems. For that, there needs to be identification of problems backed up by data. Research helps.
