Usually funding on kickstarter is achieved when the person has lined up all the avenues for maufacturing their product ahead of time. Unfortunately almost every time that someone doesnt do this, the backers never see what they paid for. You do have to have some knowledge of basic manufacturing practices. Is your product injection molded? machined? Are there electronics? Do you have software that needs coding? Then you start building prototypes. Once you have a production ready prototype then you will start sourcing companies that can accomplish each task. Perhaps at the end of it a fulfillment company that will package and ship your product. For alot of people that means them in their garage taping boxes and driving them to the post office.

So you cant really do it with just an idea and no money. Thats how kickstarter was always made to sound like to me.

Kickstarter REQUIRES that you have a physical working prototype. This implies that you've gone through most or all the hoops in the supply chain. Even if KS didn't have thus policy, you'll have a hard time being a credible project if you have nothing to show but drawings in a video collage.

Somone could use a 3d printer and make a project look credible with no further plan of how to manufacture it though.

Having a prototype is 1% of what it takes to make a project successful. Pressing 'launch' doesn't mean anything if you haven't spent hard money on press, advertising, video production, etc. Not sure why anyone would do this if you have no intention of delivering.

I never implied any intentions. I was pointing out a prototype means nothing because there is much more to making something then that. That was the point of my whole question i realize there is alot involved yet anyone can make the nice page you say ks REQUIRES! Kickstarted i feel gives the idea to many you just need an idea and the fundraising will make it happen. This never made any sense to me, thats why i was asking. Not sure why the downvotes.

Edit: actually you are the one that said a protype implies a person is qualified and has gone through the hoops which it dosent at all.

Finding a good manufacturer is the hardest part of any new product development. We have gone thru four before we decided to do 50% of the work ourselves. You need a little luck and connections.
