Stop hating on her! She plays Bubble Candy Pop Saga 2: Chapter 69 every day on Facebook, so she's a real gamer.

There are actual girl gamers though. Hashtag should be #fakenerd =-P

There are actual girl gamers though.

I don't recall male fake nerds being overwhelmingly defended with claims of "misogyny" when called out on their fake nerdery.

Hence why the mocking term "gamer girl" exists.

Because actual female gamers hate these bitches too.

Being a 'nerd' is cool now, as in dabbling in something considered 'nerdy' but not really delving much deeper than tweeting about it.

I fire interns wasting my time for their "cool points"

That seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen

You can still be a gamer and not be aware of E3.

I play video games and couldn't give a single fuck about what happens at E3.

You know what E3 is, though; she didn't. The whole point of making fun of her is that she was obviously making a grab for attention. She didn't want/wasn't expecting an actual gamer to respond.

The way she said it makes it all the more obvious. An actual gamer would've likely wrote out the title.

No I get that. But I might put on Facebook that I was fishing. I'm also doing it for attention. But I wouldn't be expected to know the name of the largest fishing convention in the world.

Well, while I understand and agree with that metaphor, gaming is mostly an online hobby, a digital one. It is generally easier to be connected with that's going on in the international gaming community rather than the international fishing community, which is an offline hobby. Just my take on it.

Again, loved the example you use, but just wanted to share my take.

I get it. People get very upset when someone doesn't fall into what they consider a nerd. I think terms like "nerd" and "gamer" and just so broad that I don't see a problem if this girl wants to label herself one.

There's nothing wrong with girls being gamers. The thing is that she called herself a gamer, when she's not. There is, today, a difference between being a gamer and playing games, because of the ideas and generals thoughts associated with being a gamer that aren't applied to people who just play games and say they just play games.

She called herself a nerd. She never called herself a gamer

True, I just noticed that. Nerd is a word with a bit of a wider meaning, and that means we can't judge the situational. Maybe she's a comic nerd or a movie nerd then. We can't tell from what we see in the photo. We can, however, make guesses based off her responses.

She said she's playing video games and then called herself a nerd, so it's fair for you to make the assumption you made.

You don't know the context. This could be a guy that frequently annoys/badgers her on Facebook.

Yeah, and this could be a typical immature teenage girl ("sounds stupid", "stop commenting") you're white knighting for. The world may never know!

And if she's not a part of the community how is she supposed to know the difference? To continue the metaphor I could go catch some sunfish and call myself a fisher because I'm using the term based on my experience fishing and not the entirety of the sport.

She did imply that playing video games makes her a nerd though, so in her own context gamer = nerd.

Is it wrong for her to think that? She's calling herself a nerd.

Nothing wrong with it. I'm just saying that to her "playing video games" and "nerd" are synonymous.

Yes, but you probably wouldn't call that event stupid if someone mentioned it either.

Maybe if it was called FISH-O-RAMA!!!!!

Yeah, but I'd imagine you'd think it was cool when you found out about it, rather than say it sounds stupid

To be fair putting anything on facebook or twitter is for the reason of grabbing attention.

I've been playing video games since I was a child. I've never heard of e3 in my 20 years of living:(

I bet she's playing Unreal Tournament, the 1999 version on her souped up rig.

Yes. And it apparently drew the ire of SJWs and the actor who played Brian P. chose to respond.
