According to a 1993 study of archival Soviet data, a total of 1,053,829 people died in the Gulag from 1934–53 (there is no archival data for the period 1919–1934). However, taking into account the likelihood of unreliable record keeping, and the fact that it was common practice to release prisoners who were either suffering from incurable diseases or near death, non-state estimates of the actual Gulag death toll are usually higher. Some independent estimates are as low as 1.6 million deaths during the whole period from 1929 to 1953, while other estimates go beyond 10 million.

Even at the high end, that's less than just the Holocaust, and over decades, and most estimates are much, much lower. Certainly atrocious and indefensible, but not even close to Nazi levels of evil.

You don't take in to account starvation in USSR, USSR satellite states, China, and North Korea. You don't take account of the millions that died in the revolutions and the clean up that came fourth. 100's of millions of people have died as a direct result from communism and its related ideas. Communism has killed more than Nazism (which is ironic because Nazi is short for National Socialism). Though, the Nazi's hated communism............

Влажный means "(he is/object with male pronouns is) damp/moist". Wet would be мокрый. Dank wouldn't have a perfect translation... Пиздата/пиздатый/пиздатая would work. Some variation of кайф would work, too, given the fact that both terms originate from drug slang, specifically weed and hash.

Tl;Dr - Ireland provided large amounts of food products to Britain and depended on growing potatoes for a bulk of the food that sustained its own population. After disaster resulted in abysmal potato yields Britain failed to provide adequate relief for the Irish who were supplying and had supplied foods to the empire.
