from independent: "The 35-year-old signed a new deal in the summer, with Mourinho making him his vice-captain, but United’s policy on offering only one-year deals to players over 30 years old means he will be a free agent in the summer."

Thanks for that. I was having trouble finding articles that referenced the policy.

I like to type in google key words like "manchester united contract renewal policy over 30 years old"

I definitely tried a few combinations but wasn't pulling much up. A lot of it was recent Zlatan articles without any mention.

I also didn't have much time to sift through the articles.

I appreciate your help!

Been in place since at least since the Fergie era. There was a whole thing at one point about Giggs wanting a two year deal over 30 years of age and thought he deserved one due to his service to the club, and the club tried not to budge. Can't remember the result, but yeah, the one-year deal over 30 has been in place for a bit

So would you say early 2000's? Another knowledgeable poster thought 2003-2005. That seemed to line up with what I remembered.

There were some questions over both Giggs and Scholes in their early 30's. I can't remember if they got more than 1 year deals or not.
