First of all, the world has been becoming increasingly 'globalist' just about every single day for the past 10,000 years. And that's barely an exaggeration. As technology progresses, and we can communicate faster, travel faster, etc. we become naturally more global. I don't see how you stop globalism when the average person (in the developed world at least) can get on a plane and fly pretty much anywhere in the world in under 24 hours for far less than a years wages. The economy today is a global economy, where any change in one country effects many, if not all others. How do you stop globalism when that's the world we live in? Globalism has marched forward for literally thousands of years and the only way I can see it ever going backwards is a massive disaster on the scale of nuclear war. And even then, once the dust has settled, if there are any people left you know damn well the globalist trend will start again. Globalism is inevitable.
Secondly, the issues we face today are global issues. Climate change, whether you think it's caused by people or by natural cycles, IS happening. And it will lead to massive crises across the world, including in America and Europe. No one nation can fix or stop climate change alone; this is a global problem that needs global solutions. The economy, as I said earlier, is also global. Economic disaster in one nation hurts most or all others. Economic solutions have to be increasingly global too. Tax evasion is one major showcase for the need for global cooperation of some form. The fabulously wealthy can hide their money from taxes in off-shore tax heavens. The solution to that problem is also global. Terrorism is a global threat, and its solution must also be global. There are literally dozens of issues today that need to be addressed internationally and I don't know how you can do that without being 'globalist.' We need globalism, in some form.
Thirdly, Globalism is GOOD. The world today is safer and more prosperous than ever before. And while a lot of factors play into that, a major factor is certainly Globalism. More economic prosperity is thanks to a more global economy (free trade was something I thought my party supported until last year) iPhones couldn't exist in a non-globalized world, and neither could 10,000 other things that are likely in every persons home. Less war is partially due to nuclear weapons, but also partly due to increasing global interconnection. Sharing in cultures from around the world and being able to visit basically any place on earth by the end of the week is amazing, and it's thanks to globalism. Less disease deaths and decreasing child mortality is also thanks to globalism (as well as Gates, Carter, and many hard working organizations) The world is better today than ever before, and that's at least partially because of Globalism.
Globalism isn't stopping,
we need globalism in some form,
And globalism has been extremely good.
I simply cannot understand the idea of a "false song of globalism." The world today is so much better than the world of yesteryear. You want a world without globalism? Go back to the Stone Age.
Also: this is in response to a post on The Don a few days ago, but there have been dozens if not hundreds like it over there.
