I don't think our problems are due to our football. Sure, some players are played out of position and not everybody is performing well. We could always improve our squad and lose some deadwood, but overall our players have what it takes to win games and challenge competitions. We have shown sparks of brilliance here and there, but it never felt like it came from a place of confidence and belief.

With the exception of Moyes, we had good managers since SAF with proven records and an understanding of the game. Mourinho has his flaws, but his antics have produced results and that is something that people cannot disagree with.

I think Man Utd is facing a midlife crisis. When SAF departed, we not only lost a brilliant manager, but an entire identity that went along with him. Over the last 20 years Manchester United and Alex Ferguson became synonymous because one embodied the other. Now that he is gone, we aren't really sure who we are anymore.

Like the midlife crisis man who buys a sports car, new clothes, and goes clubbing, Utd is simply confused right now. We spend lavishly on big names like Pogba and ADM without really knowing what to do with them. Our performances are erratic, ranging from world-class attacking football to barely squeaking by mediocre teams.

What Utd needs now is a new purpose in life, something everybody can get behind and support. I'm not talking about winning the league or signing the best player (although those are nice), but more like a strategic vision of what we want to become over the next decade or so. Once we have that down the rest will fall into place.

If we keep spending large on big name stars and managers without addressing the core issues we will always falter. If we want to achieve any form of long-lasting success, we must go back to basics and figure out what we want.

If you had wrote all that down last year I would have agreed with some of it (except your conclusions at the end). Now however I see an identity and I see the intent. Mourinho wants us to be solid in the back and attack quickly and creatively. Push the ball forwards with a reason. We don't have all the players we need yet but he has had only last summer to buy and he still got 4 of our best current players in that time.

Relax and wait a little longer for him to get who he wants, look at Chelsea under him and even right now (those are mostly his players). That is his vision for United as well, maybe with a bit more attacking mindset. We had a very long unbeaten streak with a lot of draws yes, but you should bet your ass he will look to improve that with additions this summer.

Fatigue tend to takes away a teams style and mojo. What it does is show how many fighters are in a team and for this i think we can be happy with our guys as they have a lot. The rest will come with time, SAF leaving was big and Jose will take some time to instill a proper identity but it will come.
