I don't think our problems are due to our football. Sure, some players are played out of position and not everybody is performing well. We could always improve our squad and lose some deadwood, but overall our players have what it takes to win games and challenge competitions. We have shown sparks of brilliance here and there, but it never felt like it came from a place of confidence and belief.

With the exception of Moyes, we had good managers since SAF with proven records and an understanding of the game. Mourinho has his flaws, but his antics have produced results and that is something that people cannot disagree with.

I think Man Utd is facing a midlife crisis. When SAF departed, we not only lost a brilliant manager, but an entire identity that went along with him. Over the last 20 years Manchester United and Alex Ferguson became synonymous because one embodied the other. Now that he is gone, we aren't really sure who we are anymore.

Like the midlife crisis man who buys a sports car, new clothes, and goes clubbing, Utd is simply confused right now. We spend lavishly on big names like Pogba and ADM without really knowing what to do with them. Our performances are erratic, ranging from world-class attacking football to barely squeaking by mediocre teams.

What Utd needs now is a new purpose in life, something everybody can get behind and support. I'm not talking about winning the league or signing the best player (although those are nice), but more like a strategic vision of what we want to become over the next decade or so. Once we have that down the rest will fall into place.

If we keep spending large on big name stars and managers without addressing the core issues we will always falter. If we want to achieve any form of long-lasting success, we must go back to basics and figure out what we want.

So you think the reason we aren't challenging for the title this year is purely because we haven't been positive enough in mindset?

But mate that IS a load of waffle.

This year, we have been extremely positive and have been on the front foot in 95% of our games this season. We didn't challenge this year because we fell too far behind at the beginning of the season - and that was due to clear tactical and personnel issues.

At the start of the season we constantly struggled to consistently control the midfield because Pogba was partnered with fellaini, behind Rooney and Ibra which gave us no balance, and no pace.

Mkhitaryan and Martial were also very poor / benched at the beginning of the season.

Jose struggled to find his team for months, and only really settled on in November. Since then, we have been one of the top teams in the league and are close to Chelsea in terms of points won.

Ibra is also playing as a target man and our main source of goals, but his (and Pogba's) finishing has been really really poor this season, which has cost us at least 8-10 points this seasons in games that we absolutely dominated creating chance after chance, but were let down with poor finishing.

There are clear tactical flaws and room for improvement with regards to squad. You act like our squad is better than City / Arsenal / Chelsea / Spurs, when in reality it isn't. We certainly do have a good squad now, but so do those teams. We have no god given right to challenge just because we spent money, that's not how it works.

Again, saying 'we are 6th because we aren't positive enough' is completely conjecture, and a vague excuse for meaningful conversation. You have absolutely no idea what the mentality of the club is, but as far as I can see the board have shown great ambition investing in good proven players, and a lot of promising young players to build a long term project. Jose has also been ambitious in every single competition this season and the football has been we've seen since Fergie.
