The "reasoning" was that because there is no "demonstrable evidence" that things like free lunch and after school programs that feed impoverished kids directly improve their test scores and get them jobs in the future, they should therefore be cut in the interest of the taxpayer.
Well, as a taxpayer myself, I would tell this heartless bastard that one of the best uses of my money possible is to keep children--many of whom get no other meals in the day outside of school--from starving to death, regardless of whether or not it improves their performance.
The lack of empathy in the GOP is utterly repulsive and pervasive.
