One thing 4 did better than NV was combat. Felt more active and fast. But in NV the weapons felt like they connected. Also NV's weapon animation was kinda clunky and had lots of clipping issues.

You are definitely right. I wouldn't say 4 has good combat compared to something like the new Doom, but it was a lot more fluid than the last gen fallouts. New Vegas player agency is still unrivaled in my opinion, though, even outside the series.

Agree, it was smooth. 4 was far less glitchy in every way. I also liked that V.A.T.S. in 4 did not stop an enemy, just slowed them.

4 also gave Laser weapons recoil

So not all was improved upon

I prefer combat in NV for these reasons:

  1. Enemies in 4 are bullet sponges and constantly dodge out of the way. NV doesn't suffer from these problems.
  2. Weapons in 4 are boring and in some cases outright annoying to use. NV has a huuuuge variety of weapons, especially with GRA.
  3. Everything in the whole fucking commonwealth is out to get you right from the start of the game. In NV most of the factions are neutral. So you can choose your enemies and wont be running into hostiles on every street corner.

Here we go again.

Edit: do we not have anything better to do besides say the same thing everyone else already said? Not trying to be rude, but I'm pretty sure we've heard enough times that New Vegas is better than 4 and 3 on this sub and r/fallout

Then next time, why not just skip over it and not read/comment? Let alone come back and comment again... since we are on the subject of 'do we not have anything better to do.'

I'm just putting it out there, we've heard it enough times. Just play whatever game you like and get over it.

I'm just putting it out there, I don't know or care what you have heard. If it bothers you, just skip it and move along.

Wait a second, you can load legion denarius into the shotguns?

[–]SU37Yellow 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yup you have to craft coin shot ammunition at a reloading bench

[–]ereid35 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yeah its a sort of buckshot you can make at a reloading bench

I'm not sure why this is here or titled the way it is. Rather than NV vs. 3 & 4, it seems to be 4 vs. 3 & NV. (And rightly so, I might add).

1.) The variety of weapons, ammo and ammo

Its a bit strange this is the first that comes to mind and not the plot. I guess all the shooting in F4 did leave a scar on what an RPG should be remembered for.

I didnt list them in any particular order :)

[–]MrSpanx 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Understood. Maybe dont number them next time?

I agree that New Vegas had better writing. But I couldn't say they had characters I really cared about. They had interesting characters, House, the Yes Man, Boone, but I wasn't invested in them.

What was engaging was the world itself and the larger forces at play.

While I much prefer Obsidian's writing overall, I think CD Project Red and Bioware have set the bar high for engaging NPCs and Obsidian doesn't quite clear that bar most of the time. Eder and Aloth from Pillars of Eternity would be exceptions, and HK-47 which they get credit for writing a better version of than Bioware did. But part of that is down to the improved voice acting in KOTOR 2.
