  • I was going to ask a question (about the software/engine you use). But then I thought about searching through all existing questions / answers at first. So... is there a way to search through them (here)?

    This should work: https://www.google.com/search?q=site:blog.archive.is+something

  • How do you screen shot part of the webpage further down, and not just the top of the page? When I scroll down the screenshot button goes offscreen so I can't use it to get shots of other areas of the page.

Technically, no problem. It is too expensive to store full length screenshots.

  • Could you do something about LinkedIn's robot check? LinkedIn used to work great but now always blocked by Google's botcheck/recaptcha.

I would not call it “work great”: http://archive.is/3UMcH
Even if archive passes the captcha check, it gets a page too slow and heavy to process :(

  • I archived a page and it shows up in the site search and a Google search, but when I go to click on the link it says "not found (yet?)" as if it was never archived. What does that mean? I distinctly remember seeing the page after it was archived and the search results suggest it was archived, but it just won't show up.

There is mis-syncronisation with Google index.

If you lost the address of original page and the address of the archived page so Google is the only way to find, that means you’ll have to wait until next Google update

  • People often misunderstand that is the truth in case of archive.
The truth is that the archive software loaded a given webpage at given time and the browser had the content that was stored.
    That is all.

    It does NOT imply that:

    1. other people who opened the same webpage at the same time have seen the same content. There are a lot of reasons why they might see something different: A/B experiments on the websites, geotargeting, cookies, server-side and networks errors, …
    2. the archived pages contain true facts (otherwise they have to be removed or edited). Hey, there are a lot of archived pages about Santa Claus, should it mean that Santa exists?

  • I went to go donate because I think this is a very important service to society but you have no way to send bitcoin. It is very easy to accept and convert to what ever currency you use or just use the btc if your server accepts them. I will donate regularly as long as the community of developers continues the awesome wave of innovation set forth by your team.

No, thank you. Maybe next year. I have no bills which could be paid with bitcoins and convertion is neither easy nor cheap.

  • Why does some of the pages that I save not show up when you click the all snapshots from this host button? Also, why doesn't the url count go up when you save a page? I've saved a number of pages and it still says 1..50 out of 804 urls even though that should have gone up a bit from 804
    Anonymous

It is the same why there is at most 1..100 on google and other search engines (804 might look odd, the actual limit is 1000, that means there are 804 unique urls among that 1000).

  • You guys should also get In touch with storj io or some other emerging decentralized storage to back up your archives.
    Anonymous

    It is already decentralized

  • Feature request: Keep the same favicons for saved websites.
    Anonymous

But how? There is only one http://archive.is/favicon.ico which is requested for any page.
