How do you rate Juan Mata? (self.reddevils)

I was just curious what everyone's opinion is on Juan Mata. Realistically speaking we are currently an upper tier, mid table team (in regards to current standings) and he still is not a 1st choice for every game. He definitely has his moments of brilliance, but it seems to come after 15-25mins of mediocrity. It seems he would have a difficult time breaking the first 11 for other top echelon teams (both England and rest of Europe). Hopefully you guys can enlighten me on what I am missing, because I really do want to appreciate his game more.

I think if Mata was that bit quicker he would be a top top player, he's one of the best finishers in the side usually and has fantastic positional awareness. I also think he is playing much better under Mourinho and has improved his defensive game a lot. Its just a shame about his lack of pace.

I would rate him 9/10. And personally i was pretty disappointed when our manager decided to start Young against Chelsea. I personally feel that Mata or Lingard would've been a better alternative.

Mata can't do the wing back role though and that was the game plan with the 3-4-3. In another system I agree with Mata, he always seems to show up in the big games

Young had a really good game against Chelsea though. He certainly wasn't a problem.

I second that. He had a few opportunities to deliver a good cross at the crucial final minutes and he kinda missed them. I feel that playing could possibly have been a better idea or maybe substituting Young at 60-70 minutes.

That is what I have noticed too. He has an excellent final ball; but is dependent on our attackers putting pressure on the back 4 with good runs. Often it is not on Mata. A lot of our players like to show for the ball, instead of making those classic RVP runs we were so use to seeing.

I'm just as frustrated as you are. I was simply stating the fact off standings, at this moment. I am more than confident we will be top 4 by the end of the season.
