Gary Lineker hailed David De Gea’s heroics in the Manchester United goal as he limited Chelsea to a narrow 1-0 win against Jose Mourinho’s 10-man side on Monday night.

The Manchester United number one was called in action twice in the space of a couple of minutes in the first half at Stamford Bridge to keep the FA Cup last-eight clash goalless.

Eden Hazard’s deflected shot looked destined to nestle in the corner of the net, but De Gea managed to get finger tips to the ball to push it wide for a corner at Stamford Bridge.

Seconds later, Gary Cahill managed to outmuscle Marcos Rojo before the England centre-half fired a low attempt at the Manchester United goal but De Gea managed to stretch out his right hand and deflect the shot to safety.

The Manchester United shot stopper proved powerless to deny N’Golo Kante in the second half as the midfielder finished from outside the area after Ander Herrera was sent off in the first half.

However, Tottenham legend Lineker still heaped praise on De Gea despite the defeat.

Chelsea are 17 points clear of Manchester United in the Premier League table.
