Eden Hazard’s deflected shot looked destined to nestle in the corner of the net, but De Gea managed to get finger tips to the ball to push it wide for a corner at Stamford Bridge.
Seconds later, Gary Cahill managed to outmuscle Marcos Rojo before the England centre-half fired a low attempt at the Manchester United goal but De Gea managed to stretch out his right hand and deflect the shot to safety.
The Manchester United shot stopper proved powerless to deny N’Golo Kante in the second half as the midfielder finished from outside the area after Ander Herrera was sent off in the first half.
However, Tottenham legend Lineker still heaped praise on De Gea despite the defeat.
