                  It's an older bulldog so it's most likely very inactive and they're already known for their short broad stature. I have had a few bulldog breeds and I know a couple families with pure bred English bulldogs like this one. Every one I've seen looks like this once they pass their prime doggy days.

                    Yeah. The thing is, bulldogs can be spry and run around a lot, but it's just really easy for owners to get as lazy as the dogs do because, hey, lazy dog! Easy to take care of. They're not naturally energetic so owners just don't walk them or exercise them.

                    It's like having a kid who wants to sit inside and play Minecraft all day and eat junk food. Gotta put in the extra effort.

                    I have one. Left to his own devices he would eat his whole chub of food in one sitting. He never gets more than his portion + treats and never eats table scraps. So far he is healthy, but allergic to everything (hence the refrigerated food)

                                                      Family breeds purebred bulldogs, and they have enough health issues as is. Keeping them healthy is top priority. I do get saying no is hard, especially with these guys, but it's better in the long run.

                                                          I think it's cruel to even breed English bulldogs to begin with. They're essentially born with respiratory failure, get arthritis before they're 2 years of age, require c-sections/artificial insemination just to reproduce...I could go on.

                                                          Thank you for not being nasty about it like most people. It is sad that most bully owners don't take proper care of them. But we're not all evil. I have a rescued English bully and she's we always closely monitor her weight. They have such sweet personalities, we want to keep her with us as long as possible.

                                                          I'm just going to throw my two cents in here... this dog has pink skin. That probably means it has allergies. Some vets treat extreme allergies with prednisone. Now, I ain't saying it's normal or healthy, but when my bulldog was put on prednisone, he gained TONS of weight, no matter what we fed or how we fed it. We walked, we did what we could, and my poor little man just got chubby. He passed away even earlier than his short lifespan would have allowed anyway, but I tried my best to make him comfortable. It was too much, seeing his tummy bleed when he got super itchy. I'd rather have a chunky pup than a miserable one.

                                                                  My point is that compassion isn't a value that makes one superior or not, it just makes one more compassionate.

                                                                  Finding things cute (at the expense of another being) may seem nice to us, i.e. A chubby dog enjoying being warmed by the fire with an unlikely feline friend, but a compassionate person doesn't just look at this and feel good about when there is something clearly wrong, i.e. the dog is clearly obese and we can only find him cute until he prematurely passes away due to an obesity related illness which is easily avoided. If you sit back and saw 'aww' then you are just being willfully ignorant 😕

                                                                  You make a fair enough point, and I agree with you to an extent. These types of health issues in dogs is something that everyone needs to be aware of. There is definitely no way I would argue that cuteness>health. However, the point I was trying to make with my comment was we don't need everyone and their moms to comment on the health concerns associated with these dogs to shame OP into feeling bad about adopting and caring for an innocent creature. This is r/aww not r/doghealthconcerns. Some of the cutest dogs on this sub happen to be brachycephalic. When people brigade the comments with "DAE know that these dogs have been bred beyond repair?" it discourages people from sharing their pictures of cute pups who most likely live relatively full and happy lives. There is a huge difference between raising awareness of health concerns in certain breeds and shaming the owners of these dogs.
