Well thanks. I try my best not to conflate political affiliation with intelligence.

For me conservative vs liberal boils down to one basic idea : who is responsible for those who cannot provide for themselves.

For conservatives the answer is : Themselves.

For liberals it is : society.

Neither answer is right or wrong. It's simply a matter of perspective.

What I've noticed is that generally wealthy people vote conservative (they pay more into society than poor since taxes) and poorer people generally vote liberal (poor people are more likely to get the benefit of tax dollars)

I have done well in my life and pay a lot in taxes yet I believe in liberalism: basic care for all humans, equal rights for all, tolerance for all.

What I don't like about liberalism is the sanctimony and the belief that we have a moral high ground.

Voting to take someone else's money to pay for another persons life is a morally neutral move.

It's perspective that determines what you prefer.

As I grow more wealth it does become harder and harder to maintain my liberal outlook. Or maybe it's the whining of my "allies" that's been pushing me away.

There's nothing quite as threatening to a liberal than to be more left than them. I get attempts at discrediting me all the time. I got called the "racistest dude on Reddit" for saying I thought Eric garner was a better example of police brutality than Michael brown. (I still believe Michael brown was jusfifiably put down by the police and that Eric garner was murdered in cold blood - and my refusal to call Michael brown a "good boy" has cost me my liberal card lol)
