Someone i know told me they think they may have possessed someone while they were asleep and the person they possessed was a drunk guy must of been on stronger stuff he was close to my friends house next to a bar. He said he possessed him he remembers going to my friends house asking to hang out and they slapped him with a belt across the face he says thats the last thing he remembers and my friend was freaked out when he heard that it really was him they didnt believe him they thought he was just a random guy that wanted to get free stuff and wouldn't leave.... And well i guess in a way he was a random guy but with someone else's conscious...

Theoretically, yes, but not currently. We, as a species, don't possess the potential yet. Just like how people can only run SO fast and jump SO high, we can only do SO much in the non-physical. The more people who practice it, however, will expand our group potential over time.

Oh, your ability wouldn't improve in this lifetime. Think of it similar to evolution. If our species consistently does an activity (running for example) over generations, we're likely to breed with people better suited to running, pushing the limit up that little bit. Over generations, this trait spreads and grows stronger. Thankfully, Non-physical skill doesn't require generations on generations technically, however, it may require many years or lifetimes for enough people to participate.

On the most basic level, we're all connected, and we share our potential together.

Ok I gotchu. When you astral project, your soul is tied to your body no matter what. Nothing can break this connection except death, so logically, it makes sense that you would not be able to possess someone's body because your body is completely and absolutely tied to your body, and so is the other person's.

And how was the connection formed in the first place? If the body isn't physically dead, couldn't I find some way to re-form the connection via the same mechanism? Is there anything that can break the connection other than death of the physical body? What if I want my body to physically survive, but not have my consciousness bound to it for a period of time? It's my consciousness and my body, so why shouldn't that be possible?

But, you just described astral projection. The act of temporarily separating your consciousness from your physical body is exactly what's happening when you astral project. And also, your astral body is essentially your soul, right, and death happens when your soul leaves your body, right, so in theory if you were to break that connection, your body would die and whatever happens after death happens. As for the reform part, I don't think anyone knows what forms the connection, or silver cord, between your astral and physical bodies, so I don't think you could ever reform it. If people could do that, death would only be temporary.

But even during astral projection I'm still tied to this body. What if I wanted to temporarily become connected to someone else's instead (with their permission of course) to see what it's like? I guess it would be kind of like those movies and stuff where people switch bodies. Which sounds unrealistic, but if we're going on the assumption that the mind isn't contained entirely in the physical body, I don't see any reason that shouldn't be possible at least in theory.

(Actually, come to think of it, that would be theoretically possible even under a materialist view, but it would work differently, and be much more difficult, literally requiring a brain surgeon to do it.)

Yes, during astral projection, you're still tied to your body, but through a silver cord (as it's called), and you use that silver cord to come back to your body, and only your body. Because the silver cord is the only thing connecting you to your body, if you were to break it, your physical body would die, you would have no way back in, and your astral body would just do whatever the hell people do after they die. Think of your silver cord as your ticket to your body. But only yours.

If that is the case, do you believe that's an intentional decision by some higher power (made for what purpose, I'd wonder, and kind of an intrusion if you ask me) or just the way things naturally are not by virtue of any intelligence?
