Between this and your idea for fixing offside, I'm starting to think you're Marco Van Basten

Hahaha 😂, his ideas are a bit more extreme but I see where you're coming from. It's probably due to my frustration of teams wasting time every game and referees fucking us lol.

We time waste when leading. If time wasting is fucking us it's because we're drawing yet a-fucking-gain.

😂😂, perhaps we do waste time while we're winning. But it's far less than the smaller teams do. The majority of teams come against us and don't leave they're own box. However when they play against a counter attacking team like Chelsea, they bend over and spread themselves open.

In theory, referees take note of times where the ball is out of play for an exceptional period of time. In lower leagues, many referees run two watches - one for tracking normal time, one to track stoppages.

In reality, time wasting is accepted as a part of the professional game and aside from bonafide injuries, and extreme cases (where the referee produces a card for UGC/time wasting), the ref is going to add ~30 seconds for each goal, ~30 seconds to a minute for each sub, and that's more or less it (again, barring actual injuries which tend to be well-tracked).

For the most part, it's a decent formula too.

Source: former R4 - haven't refereed in a very long time though.

For the Bournemouth match, I expected much more stoppage time than they gave. I don't think it's a systemic issue, but rather an issue with an individual referee.

EDIT 2: Current time laws from FIFA

Allowance for time lost
Allowance is made by the referee in each half for all time lost in that half through:
• substitutions
• assessment and/or removal of injured players
• wasting time
• disciplinary sanctions
• stoppages for drinks or other medical reasons permitted by competition rules
• any other cause, including any significant delay to a restart (e.g. goal celebrations)

Referees must caution players who delay the restart of play by:
• appearing to take a throw-in but suddenly leaving it to a team-mate to take
• delaying leaving the field of play when being substituted
• excessively delaying a restart
• kicking or carrying the ball away, or provoking a confrontation by deliberately touching the ball after the referee has stopped play
• taking a free kick from the wrong position to force a retake

Yeah that's a good formula, But IMO look at the game against bournemouth the other day. They made 3 subs, and wasted atleast 7-9 minutes. Faking injuries and taking set pieces. Maybe if there was just an official that added up the amount of time the ball was out of play and added it all on at the end of the half?

I was wondered how the game would look if teams had a certain amount of time to play the ball in from a dead ball situation. (i.e. teams have 10 seconds to play a ball in from a free kick, corner, throw in, goal kick, etc).

That's a really good idea, would deffo prevent time wasting. However it would be difficult when teams are taking attacking set pieces such as pens and free kicks and such .

Perhaps there could be a different amount of allotted time depending on the type of set piece/dead ball situation

Yeah, that's a good idea. Would be interesting to see. Would probably be a humongous point difference between the bigger and lesser teams aswell. As if the smaller teams, tend to just park the bus and waste time whenever possible lol.
