Won't work. Heads can be offside too

That would be too complicated to design. Its not as simple as a ball crossing a line for a goal.

1) This idea probably wouldn't work but maybe Cameras eventually would be able to do the Job 2) Why are ppl against improvements that help the game because they're "unfair" to lower league teams

Completely agree mate, something definitely needs to happen. The amount of horrendous decisions this season is beyond embarrassing.

This is the most stupid ill thought out thing I've ever read. Do you understand the offside rule? It's when the ball is played forward. The referee will be buzzing constantly as players nearly always try to play offside until the moment they need to be onside.

Sounds like a pretty bad idea tbh

How so?

Because there is no practical way to do it. Every part of the body except for the arms can be in an offside position. It would cost a lot as well

Yes it may cost alot, but isn't there a huge amount of money in football? Everyone complains about how much money football teams posses, so why couldnt something like this happen?

Plus couldn't there be a full body tracker? It doesn't have to be just an ankle tracker, was just an idea lol

So you want players to wear sensors on their head, hands, legs, chest. As well as the ball having a sensor. As well as the INCREDIBLY complicated technology that would somehow have to detect if a player has hit a ball or not. It has no way of detecting wether or not players were interfering with play and a million other scenarios that aren't black and white.

This is nothing like goal like technology which relatively speaking, is 1000x easier to implement. Your suggestion is ridiculously complex, invasive and completely takes away what football is about in that it actively interferes with the players (making them wear sensors on every limb).

I'm sorry but it's an absolutely awful idea that you have put no thought into at all. It's not feasible.

Alright, no need to shit the bed. It was just an idea.

I'm perfectly calm and gave forth actual reasons I think it's a terrible idea?

Don't be so thin skinned because we disagree 👍

You stated that it was an awful idea, that I have put no thought into at all? How do you know I have put no thought into it? Are you me? It's far too complex to state every single detail. Do you not think it could be a tiny tracker, Like a chip? Doesn't have to be like a bow on their head. Tell me an idea you have that would improve the refereeing then? I am not a member of the fa governing body, as I said it is just an idea. So settle the fuck down lmao.

I can assume you have put no thought into this because it just isn't feasible. Several users have pointed out massive potential issues for which you have no answer.

I don't have an idea on how to improve refereeing, that is completely irrelevant to the point that this idea isn't a good one.

Do you not think it could be a tiny tracker, Like a chip?

It would have to be a chip that somehow tracks their entire head, their entire legs, and entire torso. Any part of the body can be offside. Wearing anything on the head at all is going to be invasive, never mind the fact it would have to be on every ball playable part of the body, and if it wasn't, it simply wouldn't be accurate. And again... we're not even going to get into all the rules around offside that aren't black and white, like certain players being offside but not interfering with play, knowing which player is kicking the ball etc.

So settle the fuck down lmao.

Again, I'm perfectly calm. You seem to be getting really upset because we disagree and aren't able to counter any of points intelligently. If you disagree and are adamant it would work, I'm happy to be convinced otherwise - but it seems like you just had a random basic idea without any real thought put into and decided to post it here. If you did, that's fine, I'm just saying I think it's a terrible idea.

I think a camera following the sideline or play from above would be better then. You'd still need humans to decide but with some lines drawn by a computer decisions could be made easily

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I still think that would cause constant stoppages whereas, if they were to wear trackers, it'd be a fairly quick transition.

yeah that's the problem with it right now I guess. If you let play continue until a break in play, which usually happens fairly quickly with an offside it is feasible imo. But then you have the long passages of play which would have to be reset and lost time etc

Yeah I agree with what you're saying. Plus video refereeing would probably result in further time wasting aswell lol. Do you reckon they'd pause the timer whenever an incident occurs?

It's not fair for the lower league teams, most of them wouldn't be able to afford this. Kids in third world countries can play the exact same game as the pros do with minimal resources, thats what makes this game beautiful

Yeah I hear what you saying, but like I said it appears as though we're going to be using video refereeing very soon anyway, due to everyone complaining (pundits, media outlets). I don't think third world countries would be able to afford video refereeing either?

Thought of something like this myself. It's a good idea and could work in part.

Few issues are the fact the upper body could be offside and also having a tracker in the ball may be difficult and not cost effective.

The trackers would have to be in every boot and every ball. Also a human may need to be involved to swap the inplay players and the balls once it goes out of play.

Yeah, exactly what you said. It would be incredibly difficult to achieve and to maintain. Definitely a long shot, but would be awesome haha.
