I believe that players should be made to play with some form of a tracker on their ankles. Therefore whenever a player's tracker is ahead of another players and they receive the ball, the referees device buzzes and he has definitive evidence that the player is offside

That's true, maybe it could follow various parts of the body? It probably is a long shot, but itd definitely be better than having linesmen, who are consistently awful.

Hmm I don't know man, where do you draw the line? Eventually algorithms could replace referees etc. It's unfeasible for lower league teams to compete with the same parameters as a Premier League side. Should they get better decisions because they are a PL side? To me it's too far removed from the traditional beautiful game.

Yeah, I hear that Tbf. But don't you think that when we do eventually move onto video refereeing, the game will become less enjoyable? I just feel that if this was to happen, it would be much better than video refereeing as it would mean stopping play every 5 minutes lol

Absolutely agree. I'm 100% against video replays (except in the studio afterwards :) ) - it'll slow the game down, it's not scalable and it's too far removed from the game played by the likes of Best down the years in my opinion.

For the same reason I take a bit of an extreme stance on tech in the game where I don't even approve of goalline tech because it doesn't scale from the top of the game to the lower leagues. To me part of the romance of football is I can gather 22 friends (disclaimer: I don't have 22 friends, but still, stay with me here) and have a referee, linesmen and a 4th official and we're playing the same game as our heroes in the top of the game. Additional tech removes a lot of that fluffy romantic view of the game I have :D

That would be too complicated to design. Its not as simple as a ball crossing a line for a goal.

True, but surely having video refereeing would also be difficult? Will they stop play? Will they carry on and then disallow a goal mid celebration for offside? I believe my idea would be far better, even though it is incredibly far fetched lol.

I agree with you, I've said previously the VR can be difficult if implemented wrong. I definitely don't want a stop/start game.

I sit on the fence when it comes to it, but until it's used we can't determine whether it's good or bad in certain cases.

Because there is no practical way to do it. Every part of the body except for the arms can be in an offside position. It would cost a lot as well

Yes it may cost alot, but isn't there a huge amount of money in football? Everyone complains about how much money football teams posses, so why couldnt something like this happen?

I think a camera following the sideline or play from above would be better then. You'd still need humans to decide but with some lines drawn by a computer decisions could be made easily

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I still think that would cause constant stoppages whereas, if they were to wear trackers, it'd be a fairly quick transition.

So you want players to wear sensors on their head, hands, legs, chest. As well as the ball having a sensor. As well as the INCREDIBLY complicated technology that would somehow have to detect if a player has hit a ball or not. It has no way of detecting wether or not players were interfering with play and a million other scenarios that aren't black and white.

This is nothing like goal like technology which relatively speaking, is 1000x easier to implement. Your suggestion is ridiculously complex, invasive and completely takes away what football is about in that it actively interferes with the players (making them wear sensors on every limb).

I'm sorry but it's an absolutely awful idea that you have put no thought into at all. It's not feasible.

It's not fair for the lower league teams, most of them wouldn't be able to afford this. Kids in third world countries can play the exact same game as the pros do with minimal resources, thats what makes this game beautiful

Yeah I hear what you saying, but like I said it appears as though we're going to be using video refereeing very soon anyway, due to everyone complaining (pundits, media outlets). I don't think third world countries would be able to afford video refereeing either?

Thought of something like this myself. It's a good idea and could work in part.

Few issues are the fact the upper body could be offside and also having a tracker in the ball may be difficult and not cost effective.

The trackers would have to be in every boot and every ball. Also a human may need to be involved to swap the inplay players and the balls once it goes out of play.

Yeah, exactly what you said. It would be incredibly difficult to achieve and to maintain. Definitely a long shot, but would be awesome haha.
