Depends what genre and setting it takes place in. Dragon Ball is Wuxia so they should've cast Asians. Fullmetal Alchemist takes place in a european esque setting, so having a Japanese cast makes no sense.

I'm gonna give it a chance because the ethnicity of Scarlett Johansen is irrelevant to her acting skills. But after seeing the trailers, it turns me away because they're straying away from Motoko having a struggle of knowing if she is still herself despite being fully cybernetic and they're going with, "THEY MADE ME A ROBOT TO CONTROL ME!!"

I finished reading the manga and currently watching everything all over again just to refresh my memory and prepare for the movie, as I long held the belief that GitS was one of those anime series which was impossible to ever be turned into a real live action movie. SJ? I kinda liked her in Lucy with that cold, icy, not-human anymore demeanor and I'm hoping that she'll be able to pull off something similar again, so because of that reason I'm willing to give her a shot. That said, although I didn't jump on the whitewash bandwaggon I would have preffered a Japanese girl for the role but on the other hand, none of the characters in the original look all that Japanese. Another thing, not too long ago, I was in Tokyo and I visited a GitS theatrical play but that looked equally akward with all Japanese characters with ill-fitting wigs. Only the girl who resembled the major as she did in the Arise part of the franchise looked okay. Personally, I'd pick that chick as the Major but as for the rest for the team, I'd have gone for an ethnically mixed bunch.

Stand alone complex is the anime series with an alternative storyline.

1995 is the original movie that is in my opinion one of the greatest animated movies ever. its very complex and has a very layered story and structure. it tackles philosophical questions( what it means to be human, identity in space, what are the limits of the human species at the time of the movie and similar) and has some scenes in it that still mesmerise me to this day. stand-alone complex is a show with 2 seasons, 26 episodes each. it is based on the characters of the movie, but it is way less complex and doesnt really go deep into the characters and their search for identity or anything like that( sometimes but at least not in the first season). it has an episodic structure like cowbow bebop but they are tied together in a very nice way in my opinion. overall i like the show a lot, especially the second season because it starts to use some of the vast potential it has ( setting, characters i.e.). its mature, very smart and well written so i recommend it

Unfortunately, she did not. However, she did produce a few albums, and they are lovely too listen too. In general her voice is less powerful on those than it is in this track, but well worth listening too. I was happy to have met her in 2014 at AnimeCon in the Netherlands. She gave an awesome concert that lasted longer than programmed and at the same time it was too short.  During our conversations, I found that she was a very happy and gentle person, who really took time for her fans. And she was very nice to work with.
