Team Trump’s involvement with Russia in the election is becoming clearer by the moment. A new report shows that the campaign approved Carter Page’s travel to Russia in July last year.
Page was the Trump campaign’s foreign policy adviser. We’ve now learned that Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, approved funds for Page to travel to Russia before the presidential election.
Page infamously traveled to Moscow to give a commencement address at the New Economic School. And what a speech he gave.
He slammed Western governments, including the United States, and gave Kremlin talking points. Part of his speech included:
“Washington and other Western powers have impeded potential progress through their often hypocritical focus on ideas such as democratization, inequality, corruption and regime change.”
Holy cow! The Trump campaign aide took this passage is straight out of Putin’s Manual for Destabilizing the West. But he had other matters to tend to during his summertime visit.
The United States Intelligence Community believes that Page met with Russian authorities while in Moscow. He met with former Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, the head of state-owned oil giant Rosneft, and Sergei Ivanov, Putin’s chief of staff.
While there are no public records of discussions during this meeting, one can only guess at what they were. Perhaps they discussed the lifting of sanctions on Russia, which would open the door for the 500 billion dollar oil deal between Exxon and Russia.
Who knows, Carter and the Russians discussions could focus on the 2016 elections and how Russia could help Trump. There were a number of pro-Russian, anti-American items to discuss.
And the Russians really like Page. Let this comment sink in:
“He’s an extremely well-informed, authoritative expert on Russia. People really respect him in this industry. He’s a very serious guy, and he has a good reputation,” Rosneft spokesman Mikhail Leontiev said.
Page joins a number of others within Trump’s inner circle who the Russians like. Exxon’s former CEO and current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson comes to mind. He is the one who negotiated the $500 billion oil deal.
And who can forget their money launderer, billionaire Wilbur Ross, who is now our Commerce Secretary? And of course, former National Security Director Michael Flynn, who discussed lifting the Obama-era sanctions before Trump’s inauguration.
Then there is Page, who is currently under investigation by the FBI for his summertime Russian trip. The Senate Intelligence Committee ordered him to preserve all documents related to his Russian trip. It sounds like Mr. Page is in a lot of trouble.
Of course, the Trump administration claims to know nothing about Page’s trip. Administration officials even deny that he ever worked for them.
Former campaign manager Lewandowski said, “Is it possible that he emailed me asking if he could go to Russia as a private citizen? I don’t remember that, but I probably got 1,000 emails a day at that time, and I can’t remember every single one that I was sent. And I wouldn’t necessarily remember if I had a one-word response to him saying he could do something as a private citizen.”
Lewandowski in a statement to POLITICO, “I don’t know who Carter Page is.”
Well, if you do not even know who Page is, why did you approve his trip to Moscow? After all, expenditures for long trips, such as to Moscow, had to have your approval.
When will Congress and the Department of Justice have enough of these deceptions and appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Trump’s ties with Russia? By a large majority, the American people want an investigation. And all of these criminals work for the American people, so give us what we demand.
