The linked comment is particulary bad, or to be charitable uses very odd wording. And from self-proclaimed Catholic no less.
According to our teachings, the Pope is infallible. The people in the sub were saying to pray for him.
No, Pope is not infallible. Otherwise woe to Catholics if Pope says that expired milk is best drink in the world. Or worse we would be hunting witches still.
Pope has gift of infallibility: Council of Vatican I, defined when he is able to use such charism.
..we teach and define as a divinely revealed dogma that when the Roman Pontiff speaks EX CATHEDRA, that is, when, in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians, in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority, he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole Church, he possesses, by the divine assistance promised to him in blessed Peter, that infallibility..
So this definition does not in any way give Pope supernatural power to be right in any situation, rather it gives him ability to be express clear doctrine concerning faith or morals. Pretty strong difference.
Going on,
But you're correct, the Pope is really (to us) the one person on Earth who has his voice to God's ear.
No, no, no.
Sitting in papal chair does not give you direct telephone line to God. Every Catholic, and every human can speak to God.
Being Pope makes you "only" leader of Christians, without telephone line.
And what is really funny part? After making Pope into superman:
I can think for myself. I can have a relationship with God and not believe everything that someone says. My faith is very important to me and I've spoken to my pastor about things I don't agree with.
Well, now Pope is not infallible, rather it is I who is arbiter. Two different claims in same thread.
Truth is that Catholic must assent to certain doctrines and dogmas, or believe in order to be in good standing.
That is all.
