I consider garlic a spice and not it's own separate food that would constitute making this sandwich into a melt. Adding garlic is like adding pepper in my opinion.

it's because after the famous "you people make me sick" post (top all-time here), everyone suddenly became a "grilled cheese expert" overnight and pretended to care about what people put in their sandwiches. Now they take FuckBlueShells' word as gospel and make every effort to bring it up. If you so much as leave a speck of dust between the bread you'll be called out on your """dust melt""" while a select few eager commenters will gleefully explain why you are wrong and that their needlessly strict definition is 100% the law. While I do agree that some things aren't necessarily grilled cheeses (IMO adding meat makes it a regular grilled sandwich), the level of nitpicking is really annoying. Ultimately, this drives the subreddit into a point where everyone is just posting the same sandwich over and over again, because anything outside of the norm is somehow a cardinal sin. It's hard to tell who is merelypretending.jpg and who is actually bothered by a random restaurant's menu enough to spread their shitty melt meme on a 1-star Yelp review.

tl;dr: "no fun allowed"

It's a bit sweeter and more dense than normal white bread. It's good for making French toast with. In my opinion Sour Dough is the best bread to use for Grilled Cheese but potato was the only bread I had available.
