Positive note: even 3 hours before the meeting started there was a line of 100+ people. 99% were liberals. I think there were MAYBE 3 or 4 Graham supporters in the whole audience.
Reality:
It started off ok, he really wanted to talk about health insurance. I feel that even though he hates "Obamacare" it appears it IS an issue he wants to solve. He seemed knowledgeable and talked about how it is a complex issue. He feels Obamacare is not the solution, but he seems to understand the system is broke and their needs to be SOME SOLUTION.
He went hard against Putin and Russia, saying Putin is not only meddling in our election, but also elections in Germany, France, and Italy.
But eventually, he got frustrated with the crowd and his true colors came out. He started saying that the crowd "Couldn't get over the fact that you lost the election", he said he supports "ALMOST EVERYTHING" TRUMP IS TRYING TO DO."
It ended very uncivil, he was just basically laughing at all the questions and detractors and angry constituents. "You guys lost the election."
I still give him credit: he was at least brave enough to face his constituents, unlike the cowards like Rubio.
But if you think he is going to stand up to Trump - you are going to be disappointed.
As I told my wife, the only thing that came out of it is he learned we aren't "sort of" pissed, we are REALLY FUCKING PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW.
if we can parlay this into votes in two years, the GOP is in trouble.
All he is doing is riding both sides of the fence. Voting the party line, while dropping some "anti Trump" rhetoric to appear tough and independent.
