Trump and the “ME” Generation
How Trump personifies all the worse tendencies of the Baby Boomers
Fundamental Christian conservatives have long kept endless lists of suspected Antichrist look alikes, including Barack Obama. Their need to personify evil in the form of decent human beings has always struck me as juvenile and deeply sad.
Speaking from the other side of the fence, I don’t see Trump as some kind of Antichrist (may his followers bless his holy name). But I do see a haughty contempt for anyone except himself.
And Trump’s attitudes appear to be matched by his closest advisors. Which, whether viewing him as an individual or looking at them collectively, defines selfishness.
Selfishness and maniacal self-centeredness are the core danger here
It doesn’t matter if you’re liberal or conservative, selfishness destroys. Selfishness is the true Antichrist. Because selfishness puts personal gain and power above all else.
Trump is the High Priest of the “Me” generation. The Baby Boom generation challenged itself in terms of achieving self-realization and self-fulfillment, which are positive “Me” generation attributes. Trump, on the other hand, personifies all of “Me” generation’s most vile tendencies and values.
Trump is a bully. He attacks. Attackers are on the offense. Which puts the rest of us on the defense. This is why we consider their behavior so offensive.
Trump and his underlings have made their lives all about serving themselves. Their stylized interpretation of the “Me” generation has no sense of selfless service. Such altruistic outlooks are seen by Trump as weak and foolish. Let someone else do that dumb stuff. I’m smart.
The Trumps of the world place little to no value on helping others
That is, unless it serves their own needs for recognition, glorification, power and fortune. And it’s so easy to see, isn’t it? So readily transparent.
The Trump name, which is actually a pretty awkward name, is splashed and plastered everywhere. Much like a man who has to splash his sex — in humiliating ways — across a woman’s face. And Trump’s obsession with gold betrays an underlying insecurity. His gold compulsion is not only transparently immature and ostentatious, but it utterly reveals his fixation on the glorification of “Me”.
The opposite of the Antichrist is the Christ, which represents the ability to balance between right and wrong. That’s the thing keeping our minds and hearts open. It’s the thing that suggests life is a balance between the inner and the outer. Between too much and too little.
But in Trump we have a leader who is neither inwardly reflective nor outwardly considerate. Who excessively tilts on the far side of way too much. For him, it’s about making money and wielding power. Because he’s smart.
