While not quite a Hogwarts bestseller, it’s a significant achievement nonetheless. A petition calling for ultra-liberal Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling to take in Muslim refugees in her 18 spare bedrooms has attracted over 50,000 signatures.
Rowling has in recent weeks become an increasingly hardline liberal voice on Twitter, calling Trump supporters “lonely virgins” and despairing of the President’s Executive Orders. This extends to frequent declarations of support for Muslim Refugees.
All this was noted by a petitioner calling himself Marcus Aurelius who set up a Change.org petition for ‘J.K. Rowling to take in Muslim refugees in her 18 spare bedrooms.” Rowling is the world’s richest writer with a fortune estimated at just under $1 billion. She owns a lavish mansion in Edinburgh replete with an equestrian centre and two residential homes for staff.
The petition declared: “J.K. Rowling has often announced her solidarity with Middle-Eastern refugees on Twitter. She is a well-known advocate of open borders and often stated, that Europe has the duty to give every single one of these refugees from all over the middle east—rarely war zones—asylum and welfare….
The peition continues: “We demand that J.K. Rowling grants no less than 18 refugees shelter in her mansions for at least 8 years. She rejects safe immigration, which is why we also demand, that there will be no additional vetting process for these refugees. Her virtue-signaling stems from ignorance, and the 100% effective cure of it will be this drastic change of perspective.
“To make this group of refugees representative of the situation in Europe, we also demand that the group consists of 14 men and 4 women, since over 75% of the millions of refugees are male.”
The petition, which has 50,506 supporters, has evidently struck a chord with signatories including right wing warriors Paul Joseph Watson and Raheem Kassam.
No response from Rowling yet but if her Twitter foe Piers Morgan was to become a high-profile supporter of the petition, she might address it. Going as far as to offer shelter to Muslim refugees though would of course be more fantastical than anything found in Hogwarts.
