The modern mind is in complete disarray. Knowledge has stretched itself to the point where neither the world nor our intelligence can find any foot-hold. It is a fact that we are suffering from nihilism.

~ Albert Camus

We're overflowing with knowledge today. Inundated from every angle with it. Stuffed to the brim by it.

We have very little wisdom today... and it only gets worse each day.

Stress causes health issues. Why should I paid for their self-induced health problems?

Is this what happens when politics replace religion?

Warning: rambling

Former leftist/unabashed communist that is bordering on coming into the fold of religion after being an atheist my entire life. The short answer is "yes". The slightly longer answer is that the non-religious believe that people will someone change their behavior when they obtain power if we have good enough intentions. After coming over to the conservative aisle in an abrupt manner, I've noticed just how important religion is... religious thoughts and feelings are present in all of us. What the establishment of religion does is allow us to act as communities to assist people and to do good. However, those that are not members of churches do not participate in this by and large. They still feel the same, but the only large and powerful institution they know is the state. Thus, communism is bred. The problem is man changes the rules he follows all the time; religion seldom changes. I've started to go to a Methodist church every Sunday the last month; it's been a great experience thus far.

I applaud your journey! I'm trying to dive deeper into my faith too. You're doing a better job than I am :)

I think it's not so much "religion" that's what conservatism kind of "requires"... but a belief in the existence of something bigger than you... bigger than humanity. That there is a moral force in the world that does ultimately punish the wicked... and reward the just. That sense of ultimate accountability is a cornerstone of conservatism IMO.

Religion is also how we've traditionally taught morals to our kids. Dismantling that I think is perhaps the biggest driving factor behind our cultural and moral rot.

So most people who are screaming their heads off about blacks needing their own spaces and white people being evil are compensating for their own feelings of discrimination and stereotyping and the conflict of those (natural) feelings and their unrealistic expectations of moral perfectionism not just in action but in purity of thought. Figures, that's what I've suspected all along.

This is obvious to any of us with a lick of common sense. A lot of the left, especially the emotional and extreme ones, are self-loathing. Their way of dealing with that is distracting themselves from their own lives by taking on the causes of others. This in turn gives them sort of a self righteous pat on the back and ego boost... further reinforcing the behavior. It becomes their identity, because their own identity is something they don't want to deal with.

That's how someone like Rachel Dolezeal can get so far down the rabbit hole that they're never coming out.

Moral outrage is a form of virtue signalling. As such, we already knew that it's self-serving.

hashtag not my president/S

KIDDING ASIDE, I find the headline to be self-serving for me to be perfectly honest. The reason why is because I believe it from personal experience, I'm not going to bother to read about it, and find a lot of findings (not all) in the field of psychology to be politically motivated drivel.

The example about the American Consumer versus the Chinese factory worker is pretty interesting.
