Kind of sounds familiar to the rhetoric on Reddit about the 2016 election.

"Reasoned discussion" = who ever deploys the most thought-terminating cliches in the shortest amount of time wins.

An ideal debate to your average redditor is someone bringing up a controversial topic, another person replying "Hmm, that's interesting but I think we all at least agree that [extremely vague and generalized form of original topic] is good. There are clearly two sides to this issue and both are valid!", then everyone congratulates themselves for being so "open minded" and the topic is never discussed again

anything that threatens white/male privilege is radical.

when intellectually lazy redditors interpret concepts like rape culture or toxic masculinity to be 'anti-men' all of a sudden feminism seems pretty radical.

What (((meaningful discussion))) can one have with someone who believes all people darker than mayo should be round up and disposed of? There's nothing to debate there.

Too true. The far left at least has some good points, but the far right? Irredeemable.
