...and got quite a few opinions on the matter.
One of my friends said he'll be there next season! Its a shout....
Another said he will never go, another said he will be there as soon as Fergie leaves in a few years. This seems sensible, but I think not.
Mourinho if he goes to Man U, will only go when he is personally wanted. Fergie will undoubtedly not leave until he is certain he has left a squad which will compete, regardless of who is in charge, for the foreseeable future. Obviously, he already has a legacy, but he wants his presence to linger for as long as possible. He already has amassed a large squad of youthful players, they just aren't clicking yet. As soon as they do and win trophies I think he will go (might even be by the end of this season! They are top of the league and into CL knock-out stage...)
This is similar to how Mourinho operates. He is proud of the legacy he left at Chelsea, their first team barely changed for 5 years. He would be most unwilling to sit in Fergie's shadow, winning trophies isn't worth it if you aren't getting credit. No, he will want to turn up at Old Trafford in a 'crisis', the club falling down the league after a couple of failed managers. The squad will need rebuilding, the tactics changed, and he will be the one to do it. Look at his past clubs, apart from Porto they have all been very wealthy clubs in dire need of investment of players in the right positions and strong direction, which he has supplied.
Therefore what I think will happen is, after Fergie leaves Man U will have one or two managers who will inevitably 'fail', then Mourinho will come in and splash the cash.
