I was actually at the same location on the day itself, catching those exact same pokemon. We vacated the area shortly after getting Granbull (didn't notice any kind of commotion, plus it was starting to drizzle) and I wasn't even aware anything had happened that day until my SO showed me this article today. It wasn't until the article mentioned both the Lapras AND the Granbull that it clicked for me, since those had been the highlight catches of that day for me, that we'd actually been hunting along WITH this guy... And now he's gone. It's really sad, and somewhat haunting. I wish his wife and family peace and consolation.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 64%. (I'm a bot)

In a cruel twist of fate, a 67-year-old retiree suffered a fatal heart attack moments after catching a rare monster, 'Lapras' last Sunday, 5.30pm at Marina Bay Sands, near an entrance to Bayfront MRT Station.

The deceased's 66-year-old wife told reporters that during the time of the incident, the deceased was out hunting for Pokemon at MBS, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

GPS readings on the deceased's handphone showed that the deceased had indeed been catching Pokemon at MBS, and that he had managed to capture a rare 'Lapras' and a second generation monster, 'Granbull' before the heart attack was triggered.

At least, he probably died happy.

Now Niantic has to make a notification about "Don't get too excited about catching a rare pokemon."

But all jokes aside, very sad story. At least he died while doing what he loves (I hope).

They'll require you to keep your finger on the heart rate monitor while playing. If it goes over 100 beats per minute, you can't catch or spin stops.

It would fit well with their policy of excluding joggers/runners/bikers.

well dang it im actually always over 100

Well you better keep it 100 if you wanna keep playing.

They'll certainly need to do something to limit the game further and keep us very, very safe.

Free heart rate monitors with possible heart problem indicator alarm for all players over 40.

You see Niantic?! If you only made Lapras SPAWN MORE OFTEN, the guy might still be alive

There are many senior citizens playing pokémon in Singapore. I would say it is a fantastic recreational activity for them. While sad, it doesn't take away the fact that it is a way for many more retirees to bond, make friends, stay healthy and exercise. On a side note, Damn... I wished I had that Lapras...

A site that immediately serves you a fullscreen ad on mobile. Gross.

Nevertheless still really sad.

May we all live to be 67 with the ability to go out catching Pokémon on our phones. Some aren't so lucky. Everyone dies, and while 67 isn't particularly old, it isn't all that young either. A sad loss for his family to be sure, but plenty of people in the world would give everything to be so lucky in life.

Is it then valid to say "I hope you catch a Lapras" to someone you really dislike?

That is a shame. Condolences to his family.

Yeah, when I saw the Lapras nerf I nearly had a heart attack too.

...after catching Lapras.

That's that important part. He died AFTER catching it. Must've went with a huge smile on his face.

Proof Niantic making rares too rare.

lololol

I'm sorry but this is just too funny. So many posts on here regularly that say "I'd probably have a heart attack if I actually saw a wild ***" and then it actually happens. Too good.

fck, and now niantic will ban heart attacks ...

I don't know, when I got my first Lapras out of an egg hatch, I was excited (pre Nerf). The 2nd one I got on my next egg hatch, was also a Lapras (post-Nerf), I wasn't as excited.

I was at that area last week. Great place to play and the best thing I've found around there was a Dragonair. No Lapras unfortunately. RIP.

This should be the catalyst to increase spawns of pokemon like that. They should be rare, but not heart attack when you finally get one rare.
